D&D 5E Lizardfolk's Cunning Artisan

It's certainly nice, but I'm not sure I'd call a proficiency that approximately half the classes get access to "a big deal."
More than half the classes get spellcasting, but I think it would be a big deal to give that away for free :)

I agree it's not a big balance issue, but it seems like the half of the classes that did get it and the half of the classes that didn't are separated along fairly distinct lines.

They are, but Lizardfolk are a race that is fairly heavily predisposed towards certain classes, I'd say. The majority of which already get shield proficiency, no?
 

I actually think that the Lizardfolk race would make a decent well rounded character in any class. +2 Con and +1 Wis is useful for every class. Sure it doesn't boost the main stats for most classes, but I can't see it being bad at anything.

*IF* the feature granted proficiency in it's crafted items, particularly the shield, I can see it making a much tougher than normal Wizard/Sorcerer.

I'm away from book, but don't the lizardfolk's crafted items only last for a fight or something? They're fairly fragile.

I'm not convinced a lizardman wizard who crafts himself a shield a few times a day is really that OP. He could get similar/better armor options via multiclassing, feats, etc. without those being overwhelmingly advantageous. Lizardmen don't make great wizards, otherwise, so this would just be a sort of nifty little bonus.

I dunno, I'd be inclined to allow it.

You are thinking of the Kobold inventor weapons, which only last a use or two before breaking, I think.
 

Sorry, I do not fully understand. Does Cunning Artisan trait allow to harvest AND to create in same short rest or only to harvest a materials?
