Local Games Stores Are Dead!

After finding out you live in Sherman Oaks Mistwell, I heartedly approve and hope you go through bringing us a store full of gaming goodness :)

I personaly like PDFs, but I doubt any gaming company is going to go to a solely PDF format, in fact Malhavoc Press will probably produce more Hardcover products given the success of AU.

If we take the core rule books, one could possibly argue that the DMG and MM could be left in PDF form.

I frankly use the SRD to cut and past monster stats when I write adventures, but also use the MM quite a bit in game,(wandering monsters, summon spells etc).

However, you can not replace the PHB, even if you were to bring a laptop to a session, hell I dont like how people treat my PHB to look something up, imagine icky dorritos hands over your nice keyboard :)

Trending wise though PDFs could probably be expected to pick up more market share. This assumes continued decrease in price per page for affordable printers likely to be in peoples home, and continued increase in broadband internet connections.

with apologies to Die, die, die my darling

Die, die, die my game store
Never offered a single sale
Die, die, die my game store
Your god damn store smells stale

I'll be seeing you again
Yeah, I'll be seeing you in hell

So don't cry to me weird peter
Your future's in an oblong box
Don't cry to me oh Game store
Your patrons reek like week old socks

Don't cry to me comic guy
Had to know the future was on-line
Don't cry to me oh fatbeard
I’m sick of that ‘Not out yet’ line
Don't cry to me El stink-o
And now your buyers run out the door
Don't cry to me old gamer

Die, die, die my game store
You won’t rip me off any more
Die, die, die my game store
And bathe your smelly help

The bottom line is the FLGS that doesn't pay attention to their surroundings and trends is doomed to fail.

That sums it up in a nutshell, IMO.

I've seen several game stores, comic stores, sports cards stores, etc. fold up and go the way of the dodo because their owners thought they would never have to change the way they did business. I don't lament them.
