Logo questions

Hey all. I'm working on a web site for my campaign world, and I'd like to put either a dungeons and dragons logo or a d20 logo on there. But first I wanted to know if this was kosher. Here's the setup.

- I'm not going to be selling this as a product, it's simply going to be a convinence for me and my players.
- I'm going for a fan-site, not a publishing site.
- It will not be OGL compliant, as I may refer to rules from WotC books.

Is using either or both of these logos legit? I mean I'm sure it would fall into the 'no one cares' category, but I thought I'd check first.

Strictly speaking - it is not kosher. Once you start using non-SRD material your right to the d20 license goes out the window. As you seemed to be concerned (or you would not ask) why not stick to the SRD?

As it is a non-profit venture, I doubt WOTC or HASBRO would particularly care...

Wizards used to have a specific fansite policy, but I don't think I've seen it or heard about it in several years. You might want to stop by their boards and ask about their fansite policy. You're more likely to get an answer there.

No. If you put the d20 system logo on it, someone might care, actually; a guy was posting on here a while ago that he got a note from malhavoc stating he was using their OGC incorrectly, for instance. If you put the d20 system logo on it, you're pretty much implicitly making yourself a publisher, and have to abide by the rules of that. If you don't want to be thought of as a web publisher, don't use it.

The D&D logo, on the other hand, is trademarked by TSR/Wizards/Hasbro, and using it isn't kosher either. Why buy trouble? If you just put "for my dungeons and dragons game", then no one is going to care.
