London Dungeon tonight! Who's going?

If only.....

but I woke up old and with responsibilities, and money issues, and a job, and chores, and a long way from London, and....

*sigh*

I'd have been pretty amazed to bump into you there, Claudio! Long way to go for a D&D game!

Umm.. don't think so. I don't recall seeing one, at any rate. Forward it again?

Helped with setup and DMed again this year, and had great fun. I'm still not sure about the restrictive nature of the location, but at least it's memorable for those who attend.

Got to chat with Rob Heinsoo on a number of occasions, and he's a really personable guy who loves his gaming.

I had an absolute blast with everything. I was allowed in early as I heard that DM's were OK to come in early (not sure if this was actually true, but it got me in the door!) and received my t-shirt, mini's, dice and maps with glee.

Spoilers for how the actual session of play went below:

[sblock]The party gelled very quickly, getting the hang of the mechanics with some ease, handily for me. Everyone also got the idea of using their 'at-wills' each round, and we were able to launch into the adventure with the minimum of preamble.

The party quickly realised that making lots of skills checks would be a good idea, allowing me to reel off a lot of background information that was provided. They also solved the riddle quite quickly, although I'd made a minor alteration and had one of the statues be on the floor so they got the idea that they could be moved.

Going up against the hobgoblins has left with me with my first memorable 4e fight. The fighter leapt over one scarcophagus to engage one hobgob, leading the dwarf to try the same - only to fall into the now flaming oil! Next turn, the fighter did a great trick - he shifted round and slammed the hobgob into the second scarcophagus, which I ruled broke it and set him on fire! The rogue was then able to run down, flank and sneak attack.

They managed not to set the stone guardians going by not entering the room at all, and the rogue snuck forward to spy out the last room. Spotting Helvec on his platform, a plan was quickly hatched.

The dwarf ran in, braced himself against the platform and waited, allowing the human fighter to run in, use the dwarf as a stepping stone, leap up onto the platform and then use an action point to Tide of Iron the hapless elf off the platform and out of the magic circle of defense, to the joy of all players and my sad sigh.

The rest of the party piled in, and other than activating the stone statues Helvec was so much dead meat before he could do much. However, the fight with the skeletons and statues was also very exciting (that knock-down, kick-em combo is just horrible) but the heroes prevailed in happiness.

I had an absolute blast running the game, and had a really good group that understood teamwork and fighting as a unit. Particular kudos to the wizard player who used the Icy Blast encounter power to slow the statues coming out of their room, giving everyone else another round to fight the statues.[/sblock]

So, to all who organised it and to all who attended, THANK YOU!

I was there (tall guy with green beanie) and I talked briefly with Rob (really nice fella), but didn't get to grill his bottom like I did David Noonan’s (another very nice dude) at last year’s Open Game Day at the Dungy.

I got my core collector's set, hung out for the toast/speech, talked with Rob, and then took off; the heat and odour became unbearable.

But it looked like everyone was having fun and everyone was really, really friendly.

I was there too - dude with glasses and a Trogdor T-shirt. I was so wrapped up in the awesomeness of the free T-shirt and finally getting my books I didn't make an effort to find ENWorld folks. We should have compulsory name badges with our icons next time ;).

Great evening though - I finally got to play instead of DMing and had a blast. We all just about survived the cave-in and finished quite early for a decent train home. Next day I got to run the adventure in Cambridge for a bunch of new players - really good fun there too, glad to see so much enthusiasm!

Getting ENWorlders to actually notice each other in a room full of gamers busily devouring the new edition can be a little tricky...

Next time I'm attending an event I'll be spouting some sort of name badge for sure - but only if we can force Morrus to wear one, too!

Oh, and a big thank you to Morrus for name-checking me on the front page!

Did anyone chat with the freelance journalist covering the event? I had quite a long chat with him in the queue outside and gave him a card, but haven't heard anything from him, and haven't been able to find anything about it.

Anyone else got any info?

I played the dwarf and had a fabulous time due in no small part to you and the other players at my table. Thank you very much for running the game. It was smashing!

I'll second that. It was very well organised. The venue couldn't be beaten, I played 4E and got to meet Rob Heinsoo. What more could a geek want?

I should be getting there at 7.30-ish... Who else is going?

It was a pleasure to finally meet you in person at last. I'm sorry we didn't get the chance to chat - I was mid-game. Perhaps some other time. ;)
