Given that its in Italy...I think what we're seeing is the site of the oldest Mafia hit- one skeleton is the wife of the first Don, the other is her lover.

It's fitting that it's in Italy, the whole thing drips romance. My wife would love this.

Sure it's not pleasing aesthetically, but I think it's the symbolism that counts.

It reminds me of a little piece of decor that I picked up on my honeymoon. It's got two skeletons hugging with a tombstone that says "Love never dies"
