Look, I'm a Monster...

Yet, people are still real people.
And dice are real dice, and cars are real cars, and cartoons are brutal assaults.

I mean, if you've ever been in high school and laughed when someone was being picked on, doesn't mean it wasn't funny to everyone but that person. The fact ENWorld has also adopted the "gnomes are a laughing stock" stance doesn't really help matters.
They made fun of gnomes. They made fun of tieflings. They made fun of the adventurers-killing-monsters-for-loot dynamic. They made fun of badgers.

If you think the gnome was a laughing stock in that video, you're projecting stuff onto it that is not there.

Please do not equate the opinion of some vocal people to the opinion of the site as a whole. EN World, either as an institution or as a collective body of people, has not really given a clear statement on gnomes - or much of anything else, for that matter.

Aside from this thread, there was also the wrong-link message I got when using my old "direct to the board" link when the site address change. It's not a clear statement, no, I'll grant you that.

And yet, tiefling's were elevated to PHB status. I don't know that a fan would complain about a little gentle ribbing when they're on the ups. When they're on the low side after having their favorite race bumped, it's a bit different, don't you think?

Gnome's aren't real. Gnome fans were mocked. As for me projecting into it, that's not really a valid arguement. You can't say something was humorous for a fact, or insulting for a fact. Dismissing my statements by saying my opinion is wrong? Doesn't really work. The only logical return is to say that you lack empathy and are blind to what is there.

No, not even remotely. Only to people who want to find stuff to take offense at.

No... believe me, that's not the only 'logical' conclusion. I don't doubt that somehow Rawr the gnome has punched your inner moppet, but what I can say is that I think you're humorlessly overreacting, over-reaching for stuff to get offended about, and seeing slights when there are none. See? I can have opinions, too.

If you can think the authors of that cartoon intended to mock gnome-lovers, I can think you're overreacting. Fair?

No, they were not. Nothing in the movie hinted at people who liked the Gnome. Nothing in the Gnome portrayal looked like something referring to a Gnome fan.

Why can't people get a good laugh at a joke? Why always so earnest?
I feel jokes (or satire and parodies) are there to provoke a laugh and then maybe a thought, but you should laugh about the joke and think about the topic!

Jeebus. Do people really think that WotC has creative teams dedicated to and a budget earmarked for personally insulting them?

I sense Godwin approaching.

In any case, gnomes got of lightly. Half orc players have more to be annoyed about (though rumour has it FRCS will have them)

Not since I got my chainmail coif but that's another story altogether. I don't like this video mostly because I don't like the changes to the races. If a more whimsical gnome and Annah from PS:T were the stars I think I'd have enjoyed it more. MMM Annah from PS:T. That's a Tiefling!
