Okay, weird pull and definitely not some of the paladins of previous editions but hear me out, the guardians from rise of the guardians: north, bunnymund, tooth, sandy and jack frost at the end, characters who champion and defend important concepts in the world: wonder, hope, childhood memories, dreams and fun.

Doc Savage. Modern day Paladin
Let me strive every moment of my life to make myself better and better, to the best of my ability, that all may profit by it. Let me think of the right and lend all my assistance to those who need it, with no regard for anything but justice. Let me take what comes with a smile, without loss of courage. Let me be considerate of my country, of my fellow citizens and my associates in everything I say and do. Let me do right to all, and wrong no man.

Solomon Kane. travels all around the world to dispense justice to an outlaw for killing a stranger that he didn't even know.

The Avatar of Virtue, from the Ultima RPG series. Yes, they had a Paladin class there, but the Avatar fits the profile better, even if they are a singular character rather than a class.

I was pondering this a month or so ago and didn't know this thread existed...

I think
  • Steve Rogers as Captain America
  • Michael Carpenter in the Dresden Files books
  • Marshal Matt Dillon in the radio Gunsmoke
  • George Gently in the Inspector George Gently TV series
all have the personality type.

I think Steve Rogers as Captain America is pretty much the perfect example of a paladin in a modern day movie

My favorite recent paladin is Tanjiro Kamado from the Demon Slayer shonen anime. He exemplifies all the best elements of the concept: a true desire to do good, earnest self-sacrifice for others, leadership by example inspiring others to push beyond, and an underlying streak of compassion and understanding that never stops him from doing what must be done.
