Hey all, thanks again for the brilliant ideas, this definitely has the engines churning again!
First, for the demon kid, I am definitely up for making it as creepy as possible. The inspiration for the child actually came from the Malifaux mini for Baby Kade if anyone is familiar with it.
The haunted tower, and broken clock, etc. are great ideas. I'm thinking of upping the creepy factor some more by having the scenery literally changing from one appearance to the next. i.e. when they first come into town it looks like a relatively normal village (albeit in the Shadowfell). After spending the night though, the town takes on the appearance of a ghost town. This is then extended to the citizens even. Maybe a priest looks like a kindly old man at first, then later is a wraith, etc. Finally, it can be summed up with the family itself. The child at first looks like a toddler until it suddenly takes on a demonic appearance, etc.
I'm thinking of expanding on this with "flashes" of what happened to the town appearing to the characters as they work their way through the adventure. The "flashes" also give them the clues they need to figure out the solution. Maybe one "flash" shows the raven on the clock tower, while another shows the beggar concealing an item, etc.
KidSnide: thanks for the clarification on the dynamic. That idea does sound pretty good. Perhaps the Lord is in fact dead/undead but is holding sway over the town still because of his grief and its expanding to trapping the whole town. As the town changes during the day, so too does the Lord. At one moment he seems quite reasonable, even apologetic, but the next his grief and fury are fueling the town's curse.
As for the Raven Queen angle, I definitely was looking at the idea of she needs the party's help, or just wants to have them "owe her one". This can be particularly powerful because while its never a good idea to anger a deity, the Raven Queen likely ranks right up at the top of the list of gods NOT to anger. It also provides a nice little safety net for PC deaths going forward as it would give a plausible solution to bringing them back should an encounter go horribly wrong.
This is why I love brainstorming. I started with just a basic idea and now I'm getting the fuel for what will hopefully be a really creepy adventure! Keep those thoughts coming!
