Looking for a system fo W40K

Clumsy Bob

First Post
My group has decided in the near future to play a game set in the warhammer 40K universe. Now all we need is a system to run with it!
Already having ruled out a d20 system, (not for disliking it, but to take a break to keep it fresh) and the alternity system we are looking for a suitable system that would suit a space/fantasy setting.
So any suggestions you may have would be greatly appresicated.

Thx

Still d20, but I ran a Warhammer 40K game using Mongoose's Judge Dredd. I used to use Rifts ages ago to run 40K, and the system works super if you set the equipment and races and such for the 40K Universe. I can't wait for Gamma World to come out to see how I can warp that (mutants=followers of Chaos?). The group is already scared.

Take a look at Savage Worlds by Pinnacle (of 'Deadlands' fame). It's a great system for both RPG as well as Miniatures/Skirmish play. There are Mass Battle & Vehicle rules as well. The system can be learned in no time, even by non-gamers.

Character creation is easy and flexible, allowing for a lot of detail too. It handles most genres "out of the box" and it delivers on its slogan, with play that's "Fast, Fun & Furious!" Large combats (20+ participants) that took hours in d20 are handled with more detail in less than half the time with SW.

My group & I have completely dropped d20 and D&D for Savage Worlds. It's the most fun I've had gaming in years. :D

I would also have to suggest BESM.
If you have to create mechanics to simulate specific aspects of the universe a broader, simpler system would probably be a better choice than a crunchier system. The ruleset will flex better under changes, you don't have to worry about the minute details as much (saving time) and the semi-generic nature of the product keeps the default setting out of the rules.

BESM itself is sort of geared towards anime, but I've never heard of anyone having a problem converting it to whatever setting they want.

You could also check out Inquisitor, GW's RPG/Skirmish game set in the WH40k universe. It's got the advantage of having all the familiar WH40k things built right in.

"Bob raises hand" whats BESM?

A generic system using the Tri-Stat engine.

I've used it to play Shadowrun, Greyhawk, Dragonlance, and a few other things, at one time or another. Very flexible.
