Looking for an AoE (Force) spell

I just read Vortex of Teeth in the Spell Compendium. It is a 4th level Wiz/Sorc/Druid spell, and it is BADASS. It creates, at Medium range, a 40' radius, 20' tall cylinder or translucent piranhas made of a mixture of 1 part magical force and 2 parts voracious, flesh-consuming hunger. In the center is a convenient, 5'x5' safe spot for something you don't want eaten to stand in. It also has the potentially invaluable ability to affect incorporeal creatures (since it's a Force spell). Unfortunately, despite being a very, very cool spell, it only deals 3d8 damage. Fortunately, it deals damage every round for 1 round/level, unless dispelled.

Hmmmm. Compare with Ice Storm? 3d6 cold & 2d6 bludgeoning for 1 round vs 3d8 for 1 round per level with no resistances and affects incorporeal/ethereal targets in a larger area? With a safe spot?

I smell a mis-levelled spell in there somewhere!

I was actually working on a force mage myself, last night. Does anyone have a list of Force spells and their sources handy? Thanks!

I'd suggest it's Ice Storm. I cast that spell once. Once.

Manyjaws seems fun. I wonder if there are any AoE force spells that don't actually bite the target?

Also in the Spell Compendium is Shard Storm. Medium range, 20' radius burst dealing 3d6 force and continues to deal 3d6 to creatures in the area for 1 round per level. It can be supressed for a round as a free action.

I was, I suppose on the back end, also looking for something that could be used with the Sculpt Spell feat. It's a different issue from a different thread. I've not built a metamagic-sorcerer before, so, I'm trying to get clear on the rules issues.

Right now I've got Hail Of Stone (5' radius column, 1st level, 5d4) that I could then Sculpt as a 2nd level spell. No AoE at 2nd. 3rd I have Shatterfloor, which I could sculpt as a 4th level spell. No real "AoE" at 4th. At 5th I have Shadow Evocation, which can be sculpted at 6th level and no 6th level AoE spell of its own (but Disintegrate ... mmmmm).

Wings of Flurry from races of dragon, 1d6/lvl force damage in a 30 radius from you and you even can designate the targets, so your friends are safe.

This is yours for just a single 4level spell.

Just looked at this..is it me, or does this spell not have a damage die cap?
