It is during it's creation that you decide weather or not someone can save it.

Actually it's not. I hate to be nit-picky but I can say for a fact from alot of research, that Acrobat Professional (any version including 7) does not allow you to create PDFs that can export or save form data within Reader (any version). I really wish it did! For this you need Adobe's enterprise software, which is extremely expensive for even a limited number of PDFs, and is aimed squarely at large corporations and governments (thus the tax form than Planchet mentioned).

I have talked with Adobe reps about this, and voiced my opinion that to allow this functionality from a fairly priced product (say in line with the $400-$1000 cost of other Adobe software), Adobe would make oodles more money than from the current model, and would secure PDFs place as the only standard for digital documents and forms.

If you'd like some backup on this point, check out these threads from large Acrobat communities:

Pasus Nauran,
Love the sheet, one of my friends loves it too.
Being able to turn that Auto Calculate off is a big way to speed it up.
Makes me wish I had a Laptop all the more, to use for gaming.
**Tabs over to another site**
**Nope no cheap ones today**

I'm glad you like it.

As for your wishlists, the feats list is definitely something I'd like to do. I played around with the idea briefly while developing v2.5 but determined the rest of the sheet wasn't ready for it yet. The plan for a future version of the sheet is that certain feats will affect stats appropriately when checked. This is on my To-Do list of feature to implement for the next big revision, though I can't say when that will be. In regards to the spell book PDF; all I can say is that making a better system for managing spells is a key feature I'm constantly looking into. Version 2.5 was a big step forward in this respect, and I'm always looking into new ideas. Trust me, I know how spellcasters feel, as my current campain character is a Mystic Theurge.

Slightly off topic...Then back on

Your Theruge, did you roleplay up to it, or did you just create it?

In the current game I'm in, I had thought about going the Theruge route, but there hasn't been anytimes where it seemed likely he would. Playing a straight Wizard currently, see the Heroes of Marchford Story Hour in my Sig for its background. We all started at 1st Level.

If played to, any problems making the concept work as an in-game progression?
I came up with one but it has yet to happen yet. That would be being raised from the dead. And then serving in that "god's name" by being a cleric for 3 levels then going with the Mystic Theruge. In Valus there are sometimes punishments or quirks for coming back from the dead, and I thought this would be a good way to into it. But alas young Magnus has continued to survive despite all odds against him.

Now back on topic....
On the Spells & Powers one.
I would recommend that Spell's (Divine and Arcane) and the Psionic to be their own seperate PDF's, then you could take it out of your big one for a lite verision for the non-caster's.
That could speed it up a little for all. And since any errata is generally aimed at Spell casting in general, wouldn't it make maintenance of it easier on your part?

On the Feats one.
Don't bother with calculating the number of feats off the classes or levels (unless the specific feat calls for it). In the above mentioned Valusian Campaign, everyone gets one bonus feat at creation (1st level) and if you use the Heritage Level option there is an additional one for a subrace of human. (i.e. my Mage Magnus is a Rhelmsmen and they receive Toughness as a bonus.) So at first level he had a total of 4 feats (1-Human;1-Toughness:Rhelmsmen;1-First Level;1-Valusian Bonus Feat) as a first level wizard. This will maintain the customability for any group, and at higher levels when Joe Blow blows his wish on a feat. Allow the entry like you do now of any customized ones too.

I'm full of ideas, just not the means to implement them. That and I make a good guinea pig too.
You can feel free to email me or IM me whenever.

A bit of both actually. Our group had had a few campaigns cut short, and we were tired of always being low level. So we started our characters at 3rd level. My character is a Cloistered Cleric (a non-martial cleric variant from Unearthed Arcana) and Wizard: Abjurer. He's a seeker of knowledge and a cleric by nature (he had a personal religious experience with Pelor that was a literal leap of faith). He's a book worm! Other than Concentration, Spellcraft, and a bit of Heling, his skill are almost entirely in Knowledge and he knows something like 12 languages. I didn't have any trouble with bringing him toward Mystic Theurge (technically he isn't one yet as he's level 6 right now) as learning the arcane arts is an extension of his knowledge-seeking nature. It also helps that in our custom campaign, our mentor and boss is a 14th level Mystic Theurge himself, who work for the church.

The key to being a useful on the road to Mystic Theurge (I does hurt being 6th level and only having access to a few 2nd level spells) is taking the Practised Spellcaster feat from Complete Arcane or Complete Divine. It allows your spellcasting to be as potent as it should be for your level, despite being 3 levels behind in each class.

As for the spellbook idea regarding the character sheet, I'm starting to lean more towards a seperate PDF. I originally preferred the idea of keeping everything together as one, but it's definitely proving to be a big slowdown (the Known Spells/Spellbook sections account for more than half the 10,000 fields on the sheet).

Thanks for the ideas.

Seperating it would be key then.
I know a lot of Wizard/Cleric players don't use that portion of automated ones prefering to
hand write their ever changing lists.
That's what I currently do in my little notebook of treasure and exp's. Keep track of all my scrolls there as well.
Make it easily printable, and most would like it landscaped so they can have longer lines vice number of lines per page.

We play mainly core rules with the exception of the Valus rules. Anything non-core (PHB, DMG) generally isn't pulled in unless there is a good story to it or something. I made up a Warmage as a back-up character, and I'm still convincing the DM on it. Coming up with the history of them and all, it actually helped develop the character and why they would be interested in the current party once I got started.

Currently we haven't agreed with the Praticed Caster feat yet. Still have time before it comes into play, unless someone else brings in a multi-class.

Not yet on the Spell Gen

Haven't tried it yet, least I don't thing I have.
Generally I'm not a big fan of having to "INSTALL" something for gaming.
Short of buying like DM Genie or Code Monkey.

I will try it at home, can't do that one at work.
Want to give a run down on it?

You choose your sources (PHB, DMG, Eberron, etc) and tell it what kind of levels the character has (Wizard8, Cleric4, Wiz3/Clr4). You also put in your attributes, domains, schools and things like that. It will then print out the spells based upon what you choose. It will break it up by level, give a basic description as well as a page/book referrence. It will also give you how many spells of a level you can cast per day, duration, DC and general info.

Pretty easy to use and I like how it prints out. I've attached a screenshot of a sample cleric I threw together.

Like the Layout

Like the Layout definitely will look at it tonight.
Does it take into Account any Spell Focus's you might have? Or are you still doing that manually?

My big question (not that it would matter as to whether I would use it or not), is what's the legality of it? Is it OK to include spell data for non-SRD spells in a free player product if you don't include a full spell description?

I like the look of SpellGen and will definitely have to try it out. It looks along the lines of what I'm striving for with my sheet.
