Hi there! :)

I would recommend the "Quicksilver Hourglass" by Anson Caralya in Dungeon #123. Its by far the best epic adventure I have come across to date.

Its for 30th-level, but it has rules for downscaling to 20th, so you should be able to tweak it to your needs.

I have been meaning to send in an epic adventure to Dungeon magazine, but I haven't had the free time to finish it of late. :(

I enthusiastically second this! Quicksilver Hourglass is a work of brilliance. A truly Epic adventure, not just an adventure with monsters and NPCs who have higher stats than other ones. Killing a God at the End of Time...now that is freakin Epic. Love this adventure!

*thinks for a while...* There was another Dungeon adventure that was epic level...but I believe it was 3.0. I forget what issue.

Upper Krust, thanks for the kind words! I agree that scaling Hourglass for 25th level shouldn't be a problem. And I happen to know for a fact that there are a few epic proposals in the slushpile at Dungeon right now, so more epic choices may be available in the not-too-distant future.

Dungeon's printed only 2 "real" epic adventures. Quicksilver Hourglass was the 2nd. The first was back in issue #93, for 21st level characters: "The Storm Lord's Keep."

Issue #92 had "The Razing of Redshore" which uses epic level content but was designed for 20th level characters. It's basiclly an adventure that gives some flavor and a subquest that "unlocks" epic level for the PCs; basically, they're supposed to become 21st level during the adventure.

The last Age of Worms adventure has some epic stuff in it too; the last Savage Tide might dip in there as well...

James,

What about Savage Tide part 10? Does that go epic in places too? ;)

*knew that Dawning of a New Age is indeed pretty epic* You try fighting some of that, see if you don't get knocked around a little.

Hey Anson! :)

Thanks for the great adventure Anson. :D

...of course I'll be looking to top that when I eventually get round to sending in my epic adventure. ;)

Great news! :D

One every six months or so would be satisfactory (from my perspective). Although I remember James saying they didn't get that many epic proposals - seems thats been rectified.

Hi James! :)

Not to 'diss' the Storm Lords Keep, but I honestly think setting an epic adventure for 21st to 28th-level PCs is a waste of time. Epic Adventures should feel impossible to non-epic parties.

I think Anson's Quicksilver Hourglass really hit the sweet spot (as regards party level) for epic adventures. It was high enough to seem a task truly beyond a 20th-level party, but low enough to still easily be scaled back to 20th or thereabouts.

Some small tidbits of advice I would proffer is that epic games really start to show up the flaws of the Challenge Rating/Encounter Level system. If you stick to the official rules your PCs are likely to make mincemeat of same EL encounters, especially in battles with NPCs possessing class levels. I don't want to hijack this thread, but a party of (4 to 5) 30th-level PCs will likely defeat a single 45th-level NPC. I'll type up the solution on my website tonight and then post the link here.
