Actually plants have root systems that in somecases can stretch for great distances (so IMHO if a druid asked has many creatures walked past recently the plant would know of vibrations within a 20 ft diameter (arbitary DM ruling) and know if said vibrations were caused by creatures walking rather than worms tilling soil for instance)

Also there is a theory (with some proof) that plants do have some kind of limited communication between themselves which a druid might be able to tap into...
