Looking for good fiend-hunting combos

Shayuri

First Post
I've got this nutty idea for a tiefling monk who wants to scour the Lower Planes clean of demons and devils, and I just thought I'd post here and see if there's any particular "must-haves" as far as feats, items and so on go.

I chose monk partly because of concept and partly because it seemed a good choice for demon hunting, what with the immunities to disease and poison, expanded physical abilities, and the nifty supernatural qualities. For the purposes of this question, assume that I'll only take PrC's that let me freely multiclass with monk.

Also, I'm including a magic weapon called Heartfang, which is a holy evil outsider bane monk weapon (probably a Kukri or similar) of whatever enhancement bonus I can afford...at least +1, since that counts as +3 vs the main enemies.

Any other ideas?

If you have access to OA there sis a prestige class called the Tattooed Monk that gains magical abilities depending on what tattoo you choose. So, the abilities can be varied and helpful.

Feats, you might consider spring attack to use your great speed as hit and run tactics. Many thinks on the lower planes can do impressive melee damage, so removing yourself from melee is a great defense.

*sigh* i just keep following Crothian around...

anyway, in regards to a magic weapon you may want to consider the bracers of striking from Magic of Faerun. they grant improved unarmed combat (yes, i know), but most importantly, they can be magically enhanced as if they were a blunt double weapon. so you could have +1 holy, evil outsider bane bracers of striking that does the monk's unarmed damage plus the magic enhancements. (but it would REALLY pricey)

(the base price of just the bracers is 1310 gp, BTW)

Sacred Fist PrC from the Defenders of the Faith book. I can easily imagine a guy like this roaming the planes looking for fiendish trouble to slap around.

Start off as a Cleric. A holy man seeking peace and wisdom via the pursuit of physical and spiritual perfection.

His quest for enlightenment leads him to a monastery where he takes up the life of a Monk. He follows this path for a time, but cannot deny the call of his faith. He begins to have nightmares that seem to warn him of a future invasion of the fiendish hordes.

He returns to his church to end the nightmares that plague his existance. The nightmares where fiends of all description descend upon mankind in endless waves, spreading pain and suffering across the lands. He is accepted with open arms.

He takes what he has learned as a Cleric, and as a Monk, and combines those teachings to become something greater, a Sacred Fist. He commits his life to the elimination of the fiendish threat that he has forseen. His path and purpose are clear.

Well, it's a cool concept on its own, but it's not what I had in mind for this character. :)

I'll probably stick with monk or "monk PrC's" to avoid the exp hit... Plus, this character isn't really of the religious mindset.

However, that said, what sorts of abilities do Sacred Fists get that would make them good at this sort of role? Can they be gotten other ways as well?

Forgive me, but I don't have Defenders of the Faith. :)

I think the monk is a superb class by itself, unless you see a PrC that really jumps out at you, then why not follow the basic class through? They keep gaining nasty abilities, most of which are really useful - ki strike, dimension door, etc.

Heartfang sounds cool.

If you're going to be hunting demons then you need some way to stop them teleporting away from you when you've given them a bit of a thrashing. Some way to access the 'dimensional anchor' spell would be the best way, imo. Also some way to get into and out of lower planes would probably be useful... if amazingly expensive! Anything to help you resist/avoid the elemental conditions on the planes would be good. I think there were a few items of that sort in the Manual of the planes.

Shayuri - sacred fist is a PrC that can make a divine caster more like a monk. they get unarmed fighting abilities, evasion, uncanny dodge... they have a limited spell list and casting ability, blindsight, and special abilities like sacred flame (covers their fists in flame) and inner armor (gives bonuses to AC and saves for a short time). by 9th lvl, the sacred fist's attacks act as +4 weapons for the purposes of overcoming DR (which is better than the monk gets...)
