Looking for 'Knight' like PrC

Come on now, guys. The OP specified Mounted Combat is a no-go. Knight Protector's not going to happen, yet everybody suggests it. Read that first post properly.

Well, the question becomes, "Do you spend a feat on mounted combat to gain access to a prestige class that doesn't have anything to do with being mounted?"

Both Knight Protector and Purple Dragon Knight require it as a pre-req but the class doesn't actually involve being mounted.
Herzog will your DM allow you to substitute something else instead of mounted combat in the case of Knight Protector or Purple Dragon Knight?

I don't know if I missed something that other people got, but what about a Holy Liberator, Complete Divine?

I get the alignment restriction does not line up with this PC. Can you handwave this?

Knight flavored with a code, Full BAB, Paladin-like clas abilities.

There is Paladin-like spellcasting, but that's not what it's based around, more supplemental.

There's no mount, would the Celestial Companion be a problem?

I don't know if there are enough good things from this PrC to counteract what she's not looking for.

I know it's not within your book list, but Solder of Light from Deities and Demigods is Knight-like as well.

There was a neat Light-themed PrC in the back of... something. Complete Divine maybe? IIRC the PrC got a little glowing ball familiar that followed them around and healed stuff.

I think Rumbletiger figured it out. Solider of Light is pretty decent.

He doesn't have to use a mount to use that class's abilities.

So, from a roleplaying standpoint, Derrek's answer to the question 'Would I waste time and dedication to learn something I'm only able to use as the equalient of a secret handshake which lets me into the big men's club' is affirmative? How old is he, in the mental sense, in this hypothetical scenario? Six? Or maybe he's a Knight Protector fanboy? And don't get me started on what a waste of a feat that is. The optimizer in me can't handle the implications without tears swelling up in his eyes. Might as well have the poor fellow carry a millstone around as a prereq. I understand everybody wants to defend his own idea, but you are just being silly pushing it.

It seems people are misinterpreting my request. So let me try to be more specific:
1. I am looking for Prc's outside of the allowed books. (I am aware of the PrC's within the allowed books, and we have thusfar dismissed them)
2. I am looking for Prc's accessible for the PC (who has a Lawful Neutral alignment, so a lot of the suggestions thus far are out, since they require the PC to be Lawful Good)
3. I am looking for PRC's accessible with Feats and abilities falling within the allowed books (so PRC's requiring, for example, skill tricks, or Domain Feats, are out)
4. A PRC that requires mounted combat is out, because the campaign makes it very hard to keep a mount. A PRC that would provide a mount that can be summoned (like that of a paladin) or something similar (like the celestial companion mentioned) would be acceptable.

Some of the suggestions that do fall in the above category (or almost, such as a PRC that would require us asking the DM to wave the alignment restriction) I will take with me to the next session, where I will discuss them with the player and, if she finds them interesting, discuss them with the DM.

Should we fail to find a suitable PRC, the player will probably continue advancing as a Fighter.
Since the Player Handbook II is not allowed, we are ALSO looking for suggestions for interesting Fighter Bonus Feats from within the allowed books.

The allowed books are Player Handbook, Dungeon Master Guide, Monstrous Manual, Complete Warrior, Complete Adventurer, Complete Divine, Complete Arcane, Dragonlance Campaign setting and Dragonlance: War of the Lance.

As always, ANY suggestions are welcome....

Oh!

Hm...

-Dragonkith (Draconomicon p.123) requires a service relationship with a dragon, Alertness, Endurance and speaking Draconic, Knowledge Arcana 4 ranks. Grants full BAB, Fort save, 4+int skillpoints and Dragony goodie class abilities.

-Dragon Devote (Races of the Dragon p.84) Requires BAB +5, Speak Draconic, Knowledge Arcana 1 rank. Grants Rogue BAB, gain +2 CHA, CON & STR stat bonuses, Natural armor, claws, resistance to sleep and paralysis, Fighter Feats at level 2 and 4, It has 2 levels of Sorcerer built in as class features + automatically granting you Magic Fang and Greater Magic Fang and eventually bestowing the Draconic template (Darkvision, Dragonblood subtype, +2 Intimidate and Spot). All this within 5 class levels.
Very natural Fighter PrC in my opinion, you pass up 1 point of BAB progression (which the Magic Fang spell supplements), keep Fighter feats, and gain everything else.

-Any chance Derrek is Half Elf? Outcast Champion from Races of Destiny is Knightlike and fits your alignment.

Although 'Dragonlance' seems to imply dragons, most of the Dragons we encounter are evil. The Dragons that are NOT evil are, at most, unhelpfull. A service relationship with a dragon seems unlikely in this campaign. Dragon Devotee might work, although I'm not sure it will fit the campaign and/or the character. I'll check it out.

Derrek is Human, so the Outcast Champion will not work out-of-the-box. I'll give it a look over though, in case the DM allows hand-waving the race requirement.

I don't get it. You say you are only allowed to use certain books, but you want suggestions for prestige classes that are NOT from the allowed books because you have dismissed them all. How is that supposed to be helpful? Is you DM pliable on this issue? So far, you have indicated quite the contrary.

Herzog, Would your friend be willing to go a little nature-y? Forest Reeve from Complete Champion is a little more ranger than you're probably looking for but it could work. Perhaps Derrek* is protecting the king's forest?

Squire of Legend, also in Complete Champion, could work. But you'd have to ask the DM about the special requirement (Disciples of Legend). It's a short class, only 3 levels.

Is there any reason why the player can't roleplay Derrek becoming a better person (going from LN to LG)?

Does Derrek have any sort of religion? Or is the Deity line blank on the character sheet?

As for going straight fighter, I'd recommend the Mage Slayer tree from Complete Arcane. Improved Critical and Power Critical is also a nice combination.

*It's been FOREVER since I've read anything Dragonlance. I really don't remember much about it.
