It's from the Pirates of Dark Water cartoon. The US version had a voice over, The above link goes to the french intro that did not have a voice over and just used the music.

Not sure that Emerson, Palmer and Lake (long) song is the best one Maybe written, but it sure doesn't 'sound' piratey. Quite the opposite if you ask me - very 'gentile'... Could be the good, pampered nobles talking about pirates?

The arrangements aren't exactly the gritty and drunken style people normally think of when they think of shanties, but the recordings are simply phenomenal. If you're looking for a slightly more modern twist on such song, Great Big Sea has made quite a career out of modernizing (to greater or lesser extents) sea shanties and other assorted nautical songs from Newfoundland.

That sounds like it could be good stuff, and metal is one of the sounds of D&D. Only thing is with stuff that's got lyrics, you have to make sure both the lyrics and music fit the right mood. Instrumental is easier to use, but good lyrics can pump the players.

Almost anything by the Chieftains works... They did the soundtrack for the 1990 version of Treasure Island, starring Christian Bale and Charlton Heston. You can find most of the tracks on YouTube:

That movie is one of my biggest pirate inspirations. Really Treasure Island is one of the most important pirate trope codifiers of all time, and that was a pretty good film adaptation. And when I didn't have "He's a Pirate" going through my head while I was planning the campaign, I had this instead:

I agree. The lyrics are pretty good but the music is waaay to soft for pirates.
