Pathfinder 1E Looking fora Good Pathfinder Dungeon Crawl

First Post
Hi guys! I've been really wanting to run a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl in Pathfinder.

I'm looking for a module or an AP that involves one or more good dungeons. Preferably, I'm looking for an epic dungeon that the party will adventure through for some time. I'm looking for a dungeon with a story to it, where things make sense (i.e. the dungeon is an ecosystem). The bigger and more involved the dungeon, the better. I would like a dungeon that has interesting traps, and one with something like riddles that involve the players having to think to get past the trap would be awesome.

Any recommendations you guys can give would be awesome, especially if you can tell me what you like about that particular dungeon. I don't want to have to do conversions, so plesae limit it to Pathfinder material.

Thanks!

As part of the Pathfinder Online Kickstarters, Paizo has/is putting out two different modules. The tech demo has Thornkeep, which includes five related dungeons ranging in starting level from 1st to 7th, and by several famous authors (Richard Baker, Jason Bulmahn, James Jacobs, Erik Mona, and Ed Greenwood). You can find it here.

The actual Pathfinder Online kickstarter has the Emerald Spire Superdungeon, which is not out yet, but considering the authors (Rich Baker, Wolfgang Baur, F. Wesley Schneider, James Sutter, Lisa Stevens, Keith Baker, Ed Greenwood, Erik Mona, Mark Rein-Hagen, Jason Bulmahn, Frank Mentzer, James Jacobs, Michael Stackpole, and Jordan Weisman), it's definitely something that's going to be worth the wait.

Thanks for the suggestions. Rappan Athuk and Slumbering Tsar both look interesting, but I'm not willing to pay $100 for an adventure. If anyone has recomendations that are more reasonably priced, I'd love to hear them. :)

Has anyone run or played the Shattered Star AP? That one looks intersting as well.

I haven't run it, but have read through and am prepping to run it starting after GenCon.

If you're looking for one megadungeon, that's not it. If you're okay with six large dungeons, each of which has it's own flavor and takes several levels of play, it's a great choice.

They do a really good job, in my opinion, of integrating a bit of roleplaying into the dungeons. They have interesting inhabitants and generally are a bit more than "kill everything in this room, move on." They remind me a lot of a well-run Temple of Elemental Evil that way.

Price-wise, you'll end up spending around as much as the megadungeons if you buy the whole run (6 * $19.99), but can stop whenever you want.

Cheers!

That AP sounds interesting. I think one huge mega-dungeon would get really old. Six large dungeons with different themes and critters would probably be a lot more fun.

Yeah, the AP will end up costing almost as much (around $90 if you get it on Amazon), but at least you don't have to buy it all at once and they're high-quality, full-color books with glossy pages.

Do the dungeons in Shattered Star have any good traps and/or puzzles to solve?

Not a huge dungeon crawl per se, rather a very deadly dungeon built as a one-shot (and can only be run as a one-shot), where individual PCs may die more than once... check out Rite Publishing Up from Darkness for the Kaidan setting of Japanese horror - it's 5 star rated by the reviewers!

Then buy the Rappan Athuk PDF for only $40. :)

There are quite a few traps and puzzles. The one that stands out, to my memory, has repercussions that ripple through the whole rest of the adventure path. That one's probably my favorite trap ever, but there are some other neat ones as well.

I'm really looking forward to running Shattered Star, but I've definitely also heard good things about Rappan Athuk and Slumbering Tsar.

Cheers!
