"The lone Gunman shivers as he realizes who "Col_Pladoh" is."

*bows* to the mighty one.

A little hero worship here, thanks Gary for your awesome creation. I just realized that I have easily played D&D more than I have done anything other single thing in life, except sleep (although it is a close second). And I owe it all to you! Thanks for making me such a geek LOL.

In Dying Earth, there's a mention of Prismatic Spray. It's called "the Incredible Prismatic Spray" or something.

Coincidentally (and off-topic), there's a holiday called Black Sabbath. The paragraph looks funny because it also mentions Earth in capital letters, which is the former name of the band Black Sabbath.

I have no idea about Black Sabbath, but I'm pretty sure that Gary got the idea for the prismatic spray spell from Dying Earth (since I believe it was published before AD&D), not the other way around.

I love the spells in the Dying Earth series. How can you NOT love spells with names like "Lugwiler's Dismal Itch," "Khulip's Nasal Enhancement," or "The Green and Purple Postponement of Joy"?

It was indeed intentional, at least according to Gary. Now, I agree the guy's not entirely reliable... After all, he never really grew up.

Whay on earth (or Oerth) would anyone want to go and do a silly thing like that for?

I'll be "this way" when I'm 90 - and they can have my 1es ed DMG when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers (probably no even then - in Futurama 'they' clearly showed that there is D&D in the afterlife :D )

You may like to know (in case you didn't already), that there's a Dying Earth RPG. It was published not long ago by Pelgrane Press and already has several supplements. The link is:

I've read the book, but I haven't tried the RPG, so I don't know if it's any good.

Hope that helps. :)

Gary,

Have you played Dying Earth RPG and, if so, what did you think of it?

BTW, you're not the only person to have a character from a book as a namesake. My real name is Simkin, which is also the name of one of the main characters in the 4 Darksword novels (yes, there are 4 books in the series in addition to the Darksword RPG) by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. However, in my case, it's just a coincidence - I think!

Take care, ;)

Quite so. As is well known, I am a dedicated fan of the work of Jack Vance:)
