Lord of the Iron Fortress- question and spoilers (sorta)

Has your DM approved the use of the spell from BoEM2? I don't know if I would. I could see this being misused quite a bit.

Think of it this way: How many badguys that you've met in the past know your character's name? Would you want THEM forcing you to come to them in this way?

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, I say! :D

Of course, if your DM has approved the spell, all's right with the world. I just hope he knows what a can of worms it opens...no adventure will be safe once the party knows the name of the Big Bad.

I keep meaning to buy BoEM2, I guess I ought to get onto it.

However, if I allow this spell to exist in my world, it will change the world in an appropriate way. No one will give out their real name. The concept that real names are powerful (an oft used fantasy concept) will become central to people's actions. Everyone will use an alias, well except maybe extremely ignorant peasants.

You would have to research extensively and use some powerful divinations to get someone's True Name. Otherwise, poof! no dice on the spell.

Call of the Diamond

SPOILERS

I just thought I'd poke my head in since you're talking about this spell. I don't want to tell you how to play, nor do I want to spoil the adventure (although the subject header for this thread already mentions spoilers), but call of the diamond has a lot of inobvious limitations.

A simple protection from evil/good/etc. spell keeps the compulsion from working.

There's no part of the compulsion that says that the affected creature can't bring others with him, or simply tell his allies what's going on and stop him from going until someone casts break enchantment (or, as a temporary fix, protection from evil).

I guess basically, having read Lord of the Iron Fortress (a very cool adventure), and knowing what the big baddie can do, I'll be surprised if call of the diamond works.

Of course, if they can cast 7th level spells, they might have some access to a higher level divination or two.

Though in Lord of the Iron Fortress the antagonist is rather well protected from divination spells.

Though I would say Monte has pretty much dispelled any concern that the spell is too powerful.
