D&D 5E Losing Hit Dice

Does anything from the official sources cause characters to temporarily lose hit dice? A number of monsters from 4e cause healing surge drain, and I was just wondering if there was any equivalent in 5th? I haven't seen any yet, but I've not been through everything.

Wraiths and spectres cause a reduction in Max Hit Points on a failed saving throw. I think that is the "modern" mechanic.

Wights are deadly. I killed my first pic yesterday in one blow from a wight. Drained her to 0 hp and she failed the con save by 1 point.
