Lost 3/2/05

The numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42

48 - The original number of plane survivors
815 - The flight number and the number on Kate's safe deposit box
16 - The number of years Rousseau has been on the island
42 - The answer to life, the universe, and everything

Dunno about 23, but it's pretty interesting stuff. :)

WayneLegion, good catch about the box company and Locke, I didn't notice that one.

I caught that too. Wasn't there a reference to the box company in someone else's story? Or maybe it was Locke telling someone that he worked in a box company and they didn't believe him.

Also, the cradle thing was foretold in the pregnant chick's dream before she was kidnapped. May have to watch that episode again.

So, for links previous to the crash.. so far we have Sawyer and the Doctor linked (Sawyer drank with the doc's dad before the dad died).

Hurley's linked to Locke via the box company and the French Chick by the numbers.

Any other links that I'm missing? Other than the dead Marshall and Kate.

The priceless line was:

Hurley looks at Sayid after handing off the battery... "She said 'Hey'."

* Jack is in the background as Michael is in the hospital, recovering from being hit by the car.

* Sawyer is being arrested, in the background, as Boone is trying to get Shannon's latest boyfriend arrested.

* Hurley is on the TV, last week, as Sun was delivering his boss's disappointment message.

* Sawyer met Jack's Dad, in a bar, about three weeks ago.

Thus:

Hurley --> Locke, Sun, Jin.
Jack --> Michael.
Sawyer --> Boone, Jack's Dad.
Boone --> Sawyer, Shannon.

Claire, so far, seems unrelated to the rest. We haven't seen anything relating Kate to anyone, nor Charlie, but I'm betting that she'll show up at one of Driveshaft's concerts, at some point, as she was the only one who recognized him... So that would link them. Sayid, also, is so far unrelated to the rest. As is Walt (to anyone but Michael)... Locke, too, was unrelated to anyone, until tonight. Six Degrees of Separation...

Boone was in Australia "rescuing" Shannon from her latest boyfriend.

Claire was in Australia because she lived there, and was on her way to LA to give up her baby to the people that the psychic had selected.

Charlie was in Australia visiting his brother, trying to get Driveshaft restarted.

Hurley was (apparently) in Australia to see the widow of the man before him who used the numbers.

Jack was in Australia to find his Dad.

Jin was in Australia because...?

Locke was in Australia trying (unsuccessfully) to go on the Walkabout Tour.

Michael was in Australia to bring home Walt.

"Sawyer" was in Australia to kill the "real Sawyer" (who wasn't).

Sayid was in Australia because...? (We haven't seen, yet!)

Shannon was in Australia with her latest beau, conning Boone into bringing money to "rescue" her... again.

Sun was in Australia because...?

Walt was in Australia because his Mom and her new hubby moved there.

Rose & Bernard we don't know about, either.

Locke is talking (to Hurley, IIRC) and asks him something to the effect of "Y'know what I did before coming here? Worked in a box company!", after being asked how he knows how to do "all this stuff".

"Hurley"...

We still don't know Hugo's background story... When being interviewed, remember that Hugo says that he had been a bit of trouble to his family, lately... Then, we see him at the psychiatric hospital (?), trying to get in to see "Lenny", where the doctor recognizes him... Then we see him get arrested, and his stock broker (?) lets us know that it was for "looking like a drug dealer".

We don't know that he wasn't. This may be the trouble that he was referring to. He could also have been a gang member, and hence "something of a warrior", which might also explain being "spry".

For all we know, "Sawyer" and "Hurley" could have been locked up, or in court, together, and Jack could appear in an earlier part of his backstory. If anyone has it on Tivo, you might want to look for Jack in the background, at the hospital...

Now, what about the origins of the name "Hurley". I can think of three possibilities: 1) Hurly-burly. He is a big guy, and that could be the origin of the name. I doubt this, as it's pretty ridiculous. 2) He threw something. He could have been a pitcher, for instance. Or he could have thrown tantrums. He doesn't have the build for baseball, and throwing tantrums wouldn't tend to get you named "Hurley". Maybe if you hurled dishes, or something... 3) He threw up a lot, when recovering from drug use... If that's the case, though, I can't see why he wouldn't have told Charlie, right off.

So, what? None of the options makes sense? :p

Anyway, there's more the Hugo/"Hurley" than meets the eye, and we still don't have the background story on this guy... There's a lot more to come, on him!

As for Pandora's Box, remember: at this point, all that's left inside is Hope! :p

Simple inference for Hurley is that he was an patient at the ward.
Would explain the "trouble line" and why he looked rather perturbed at Charlie calling him a loon.

Jin was delivering a watch to one of Sun's father's associates. Sun was with him as part of the trip. Watch delivered, they were catching a flight from Sydney to LA to deliver a second watch. Jin planned to take Sun and hide away in the USA after this final mission for her father.

I really enjoyed this episode, and Hurley just seemed awesome. I personally feel with how adament he was that he wasn't crazy that he was in the mental institution, not that he worked there. That he so needed affirmation that he wasn't insane, that he stopped pressing Rousseau on answers after she agreed the numbers were cursed. It was such a weight off his chest, and boy does he need weight off his chest. Heh.

Interesting analysis. 23 is a rather big number in the Illuminatus! Trilogy. Afterall 2+3 = Five. I think there were more details regarding the holy numbers 2, 3, 5, 23 but I do not recall them.

Still amazing how many are connected to 'death' too.

He could have worked there and quit because it was starting to affect his own sanity.
