Lost 3/2/05

He could have worked there and quit because it was starting to affect his own sanity.
I have to think he visited someone there a good bit, maybe his 'missing' father. I know that is a jump, he could have been a troubled teen (did not look like that type of place) but if he had a family member there he could be concern that it runs in the family.

Simple inference for Hurley is that he was an patient at the ward.
Would explain the "trouble line" and why he looked rather perturbed at Charlie calling him a loon.

I think Hurley was perturbed because a recurring theme for his backstories was people telling him he was crazy when he was trying to explain his view point on the curse of the numbers.

numbers...

Here's something to think about too. (got this off the fuselage.com thread about the numbers in last night's ep.)

04 + 08 + 42 - 16 - 23 = 15
+
08 + 42 + 04 - 23 - 15 = 16
+
42 + 04 + 08 - 15 - 16 = 23
-
16 + 23 + 15 - 08 - 04 = 42
-
23 + 15 + 16 - 04 - 42 = 08
=
15 + 16 + 23 - 42 - 08 = 04

All the numbers seem to be connected. The equations work from right to left and top to bottom.

Strange.

Oh, and I'm willing to bet that Sayid was in Australia, looking for his lady friend.

That's not a bad guess, especially in light of him finding the picture of her again in this ep. Anyone wanna bet he starts to cool off towards Shannon as a result? Leading her to question him about his feelings, and another flashback episode where the "truth" about the woman and Australia comes forth?

Man, those numbers all adding (and subtracting) up that way... dude!

A couple of other notes: The actor who plays Hurley was in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm{/i] where he played a drug dealer. So I suspect the line about "I don't know why they thought you were a drug dealer" was a reference to that, as probably was the whole drug dealer thing.

In the meeting between Jack's dad and Sawyer, Jacks' dad convinces Sawyer to go ahead and kill the "real Sawyer," with his inspirational speech. At the same time, Sawyer buys a whole bottle of the booze and leaves it with Jack's dad, who dies of alcohol poisoning... perhaps even that day/night? Such that Sawyer ended up killing Jack's dad.

Love this stuff!

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Wicked episode. Finally gave me (a bunch) of answers that I was looking for, and doing things that I thought they should be doing. Find the cable/Rousseau? Check. Show more of what they're doing with the hatch? Check. Find out more about how Rousseau really got to the island? Check. Learn a (tiny) bit about the transmission and Black Rock? Check.

Finally, some answers. I was pleased. (And making Hurley the center of it just improved it even more.)

Unless he wasn't being completely honest that can't be. IIRC, Sayid said that "He was responsible for her getting killed." Impling that she was caught at some point and executed on the spot for killing a guard and shooting him.

*fett527 logs on after breaking his fever 18 hours later*

That pretty much sums up my feelings about what happened in ths episode.

Other questions-
I believe Hurley was a patient (I also hope they explain the "someting of a warrior line eventually).
My recollection of the hatch was that it looked like a building/bunker of some sort, not a plane.

I also liked Sawyer's continuing string of nicknames with a snide "shortround" shot at Walt.
