Lost 3/2/05

I don't think Hurley was a ptient. If he was a think the doctor would have asked how he was doing or be more concerned with a former patient.

Damn. God ep. And I was missing a lot of info cause I missed the first 20 minutes (as well as all the eps since the December break). Don't watch a lot of tv and I have a game some wednesday nights, so it is hard to remember to tape it. Plus, with all these reruns, it is hard to keep track of when a new ep is on. This is why I missed chunks of Farscape.

I had finally given up on catching Lost again until I turned off a video and found myself staring at the Hurley episode. I found myself quickly entranced again.

I still want to see the Loche episode.

Here's something to think about too. (got this off the fuselage.com thread about the numbers in last night's ep.)

04 + 08 + 42 - 16 - 23 = 15
+
08 + 42 + 04 - 23 - 15 = 16
+
42 + 04 + 08 - 15 - 16 = 23
-
16 + 23 + 15 - 08 - 04 = 42
-
23 + 15 + 16 - 04 - 42 = 08
=
15 + 16 + 23 - 42 - 08 = 04

All the numbers seem to be connected. The equations work from right to left and top to bottom.

Strange.
That is some spooky stuff. I'm not surprised in general. This season reminds me of the first season of Alias where they had the Rambaldi web-game. That was kinda spooky, too. :)

more numbers weirdness

I've never heard of this, but it's pretty interesting.

Numbers stations description:

Numbers stations are shortwave radio stations of uncertain origin that broadcast streams of numbers, words, or phonetic sounds. It is publicly not known with certainty where their signals originate or what purpose they serve. The voices that can be heard on these stations are often those of children, or are mechanically generated.

Numbers stations appear and disappear continuously, although some stick to regular schedules, and their overall activity has increased slightly since the early 1990s. It has been speculated that these stations operate as a simple and foolproof method for government agencies to communicate with spies "in the field", using the transmitted codes as a one-time pad cryptosystem. As evidence, numbers stations have changed details of their broadcasts or produced "special", non-scheduled broadcasts in response to extrordinary political events, such as the Russian constitutional crisis of 1993. Others speculate that some of these stations may be related to illegal drug smuggling operations. Although no broadcaster or government will acknowledge or give a reason for their existence, a 1998 article in London's Daily Telegraph quoted a spokesperson for the Department of Trade and Industry (the government agency that regulates radio broadcasting in the United Kingdom) as saying, "These [numbers stations] are what you suppose they are. People shouldn't be mystified by them. They are not for, shall we say, public consumption."

Errors at the transmission site, radio direction-finding, and a knowledge of shortwave radio propagation have also provided clues to number station locations. For example, the "Atención" station is presumed to be from Cuba, as a supposed error allowed Radio Habana Cuba to be carried on the frequency.

Numbers stations are often given nicknames by enthusiasts. These nicknames often reflect some distinctive element of the station. For example, "Lincolnshire Poacher", one of the best known numbers stations, supposed by many to be run by MI6, plays the first two bars of the folk song of that name before each string of numbers. "Magnetic Fields" plays music from French electronic musician Jean Michel Jarre before and after each set of numbers. The "Atención" station begins its transmission with the Spanish-language phrase "¡Atención! ¡Atención!"

On some stations, tones can be heard in the background. It has been suggested that in such cases the voice may be an aid to tuning to the correct frequency, with the coded message being sent by modulating the tones, perhaps using a technology such as burst transmission.

Even NPR had an article on it...

So how many are left?

First, I believe, the Marshal died. Then, IIRC, the nameless surfer-girl drowned? (I may be forgetting someone in between the two). Then there was the guy who got killed on the beach... I leave out the pilot because he first added one, then lost it, leaving a net zero... The same goes for the "other" guy who Charlie just recently shot...

So, am I missing anyone? Does that leave them with 43, or 42? (Did they count what's-his-name, the guy who wasn't on the plane?)

Another possibility:

4-8-15-16-23-42

This could also be a book code: Two words. Page 4, paragraph 8, word 15, and page 16, paragraph 23, word 42.

The book? Probably either Watership Down or A Wrinkle in Time!

Probable message: "Get lost!" :p

I don't think they counted the guy Charlie shot, because he was the guy that was not on the plane.
