Lost Empires of Faerun excerpts - oh my!

Looks promising.

My copy is already on its way (I should have it on saturday, or perhaps monday, together with RotW) and then I can tell you more about the book.

Lost Empires + Explorer's Handbook = Lots of old ruins to explore and of forgotten items to find!

Forgotten items? I say let's go seek forgotten realms ;)

Toothed tentacle? Neat, but I still prefer Evan's spiked tentacle of forced intrusion.

Remind me not to annoy the wizard until after he ran out of spells :D

Yay! It's still there, the Darth Vader sword of Cormanthyr! "You've disappointed me for the last time, Coronal Viet!"

Nothing says "chaotic good race" like selecting your leader by means of a magical item that kills at whimsy anyone who doesn't suit its needs!

The moonblades aren't different: If you're unworthy, they kill you (unless you're the last of your line - then it becomes dormant instead).

The thing is: they (usually) know what they're doing when they attempt to claim one.

Heh. I'm more disaffected than a true hater of the setting.

Why am I disaffected? The Horde, Maztica and Marco Volo.

Well, the horde is long gone.

Maztica isn't really more than a sidenote (Not even much in the 3e FRCS - except that they tell you that the helmites' popularity has fallen since they enslaved and killed much of the Maztican populace. Damned helmites. And the FR were always meant to be a mirror to our world - though the resemblance was never meant to be too much).

Marco Volo is an imposter, any way, ask Volothamp Geddarm, the real Volo. ;)

Since when have the elves in FR been subject to normal alignment rules? Take the sun elves, for instance. Going by the descriptions from the various suppliments over the years, they should be a mostly lawful evil (or at the very best, lawful neutral with evil tendancies) race. Yet their most common alignment is still considered to be chaotic good so that they can have clerics of Corellon Larethain.

This thread is about Lost Empires. It's not supposed to be a flame war against elves. Please take your pet peeve elsewhere. (To the graveyard, for example, because it has been done to death more than once) Thank you.

Personally I find it interesting that the magelord has to have the specific requirement "evasion as a class or race ability".

Guess they learnt from the fochlucan, huh?

It also seems pretty darn powerful to me. For 2 levels of spellcasting and a few quite effective feats, you get (basically) any "darn it I need that one right now" spell in your book.

And I love that they admit that the deathwatch spell is primarily used for good, despite it having an [evil] tag...

I hate it when Wizards do this to me. Here I am, in my happy little hatin' FR world, and they have to bring up a FR book with nice feats like Battlecurse and Trapmaster and a really interesting prestige class like Magelord...
Meh. For me, the feats will be my least favorite part of the book.

Other things look interesting, though. I like PrCs when they are tied to the setting, and the Magelord looks to be one of them.

A little touchy, aren't we?

At any rate, I wasn't attempting to start a flame war against elves. I was merely adding to Gez's statement.

Don't get condescending.

Says the one who has "Favored Enemy (Elves)" as his custom title. It's a little hard to believe, but I'll try.

Anyway, Gez's statement was bordering on off-topic. Yours was going over. Your opinion that sun elves are Evil with a capital E but are immune to usual alignment stuff (for whatever reason) is clearly off-topic as this doesn't relate to Lost Empires of Faerûn.

So I ask you to please stay on topic.

I think you need to look up the definition of condescending.

And MerricB's explaination for his dislike of the realms wasn't off-topic, nor was your own statement about the Helmites?

It seems like what you're really upset about is that I said something critical of elves.

/me blows dust off moderator hat

Hey everybody take a deep breath. . . .

Got it? Good.

Now get back to your discussion, and if you don't like someone's opinion on elves or whatever please just ignore them and don't accuse them of flaming or hi-jacking when it is just a normal extension of the conversation.

Also, curb the meta-comments about other people's attitudes/comments (i.e. being touchy) in their post they only serve to exacerbate what is already a silly disagreement.

If you really think someone's comments are a disruption to the thread - just report the thread and/or contact a mod.

Thanks.
