What I was implying was that they remove their names now for the episodes they are not in and and put them back in for the ones they are in.

And, as Crothian stated, they may not be able to do that. Contracts are contracts. There are rules based on the number of episodes the person is in, their status as a regular, etc.

I guess I am saying they would be guest appearances. I don't believe that guest stars would get credit for the whole season if they are in two or three episodes.

It's possible that he was let go for 6 months, and will be re-hired as a regular, or even as a special guest in the spring though.

I took a look at IMDB, and the fellow playing Michael in Lost has several movies in various stages of work.
That doesn't mean he won't be back, but I'm guessing that the actor "struck while the iron is hot" and left the show to do bigger work - including a sequel to 28 Days Later.

Maybe we'll see him in season 4.

For instance, Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje was listed in the credits of both episodes one and two of this season, but didn't appear until episode 3. Since he is a regular cast member, he has to appear in the credits.

As neither Harold Perrineau or Malcolm David-Kelly appear in the credits, they are not considered regular cast. They may return as guest stars, it's true, although I believe the writers have gone on record as saying their story is done. I know there were some problems with how to deal with the Walt character, in particular, as though the castaways have only been lost for 70 days or so, it has been a couple of years for the actor- a couple of years' worth of growth- and he doesn't appear quite the same way as he did in the pilot.

Part of the reason, may be because they haven't come up with a reason why Walt has grown alot more than normal in a few months, since thats the main reason they didn't have Walt on very much last season.

That would really suck. If they leave such plot points unexplained I will not be happy with this show.

They don't really need him around in order to explain things, though. It could be as simple as them saying something to the effect of them studying him for psychic phenomena, deciding he was unstable and uncontrollable, and allowing his father to take him away after using him as leverage against Michael to get something they wanted. Heck, they alluded to as much in the last couple of episodes of last season.

Agreed, they don't need to have the actor in order to tie up the storyline.
