I have encountered a problem in the last few days and I am wondering if I am the only person who is having this problem.

Periodically when I post a reply to a thread, I get the following message:

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

This tends to happen after I have been logged into the forum for a while. When it happens, it is triggered at the moment I hit the submit button to post my reply. I am then dumped to that warning page, and my post is lost.

Now, I have been a user for a few years. I go thorugh stretches of inactivity, but I have just become active here again. I have never encountered this problem before. I can tell you it is especially frustrating if I have just finished typing a long post.

Is this a sever issue? Or is it most likely due to some setting on my end? I use Firefox for my web browser, and the problem usually shows up if I have been logged in for a while (ie: I visit the site, and then walk away from my computer for a half hour or so, come back, browse the forums some more then post).

For extra comedic gold, the problem happened the first time I tried to post this new thread. I have just logged out of Enworld and logged back in hoping to get around the issue. That got me the same message. I tried closing and re-opening my web browser, and that failed. I just restarted my computer. If your reading this, then that solution did work.

Do you check the "remember me" box when you log in? After this message happens, does it appear that you have been logged out?

My best guess is that you're not asking the site to remember you so the login cookie will time out after a while. If you take a long time to compose your post it could be that by the time you hit "submit" you're no longer logged in, so you get that error.

That's just a guess, though.

I use the "remember me" feature, but I do still (rarely) get a similar error saying that a token has expired. (It's not quite the same error as the OP, but I don't have it copied down anywhere.) In my case, I can only recall it happening when I've been sitting on a "New Reply" page for hours with no account activity.

I do use the 'remember me' option for this site.

If it is trivially a case of me being timed out / logged out, then why is it when i tried ot manually log out and log back in that I still got the same warning?

I strongly suspect it may be a specific browser setting, but I am not sure where to start looking / tweaking. I got the same problem in my attempt to post this. I was able to remedy the problem in that case by viewing a different website and then closing the browser before returning here. I did double check my browsers security settings for passwords, and it is set to remember the correct pasword for this site.

Is it likely to be a cookie related problem?

It's not an error I'm familiar with; I don't even know what it means, let alone what to do about it.

Well Morrus, that makes two of us.

I can work around it, but the problem is very bloody screwy. I have ruled out cookies and security settings for Firefox on my side of it (though not in any truly definitive way). My best theory right now is that this probably has something to do with either the way the most recent versions of Firefox implement tabbed browsing, or perhaps my recent change to a new Antivirus software.

For now I am going to try to get around the problem by using another browser.

I use Firefox for my web browser

Just curious -- what version of Firefox do you use?

I ask because within the last week, I upgraded to Firefox 3.6 (windows xp version) and now when I visit any forum page on the site, i get a new security popup warning that i never got before the browser upgrade (though mine is less than a minor inconvenience where i say 'ignore the issue' and move on). It's not the exact same issue you're having but it may point in the right direction as to the change/cause.

Also, oddly enough, just over a week ago (before i made the browser upgrade referenced above) something odd did happen where i was logged out as if the site forgot all my cookies (none of my other cookies were affected). that's actually never happened before unless i specifically tell it to log me out. it isn't a big deal at all, but it was just one of those "this is weird, oh well.." sort of moments.

anyway, my point, nothing i mentioned here is the same as what you mentioned (nor is anything i mentioned actually a big deal to me so it doesn't need investigating) just thought i'd mention it in case it offered any light on this situation for Lord Z.

Googling "security token" yields several hits with very similar error messages. It looks like it's to do with vbulletin "templates", if I understand correctly-- but I'm not actually versed in such things. But it's a suggestion for something to look into.
