Lost Temple of Demogorgon - any tips/experiences?

I'm actually hoping to run it myself in the next month or so. In my case it'll sort of be a reverse dungeon. The characters will be prisoners escaping, so the entrance will actually be the area where the cells are and I'll stick another exit somewhere else. They will be part of Demogorgon's scheme to fight some upstart cthonian demon.

SPOILERS:

Alright. We finished it in one session. We ran a lower-magic-item game (PC's at 50% of wealth in magic items with 1/4th value max single item).

In the opening encounter, I had a HORDE of apes come out of the gate, rather than just a couple of the listed ones.

The encounters were ok, but I had ot add some 3-dimensional stuff to keep the combats interesting. It's one thing to "say" that the apes are swinging from teh walls, it's another to give them a combat advantage or something.

Our group didn't kill the death knight.

I ran it as a one shot when half the group could not show up for a game... I had 3 15th level characters.... a Sorcerer, a Rogue, and an Unfettered from AE....w/ Improved Invisibility from the Sorcerer it meant lots of sneak attacks.

It had quite a few memorable moments. The design of the Temple is such that non stealthy parties will more than likely bring a large portion of the temples defenders down on them all at once....likewise parties that scout, (my group used quite a few Arcane Eyes to get a good grasp of the layout), can with the right preparation really chose the terrain to bring down the pain.

Memorable moments for me included:

Having the priest cast darkness to stop the sneak attacks from the invisible PC rogues that was creating havoc.

The big chief bad a$$ awakened dire ape failed his saving throws on a Phantasmal Killer spell when he was at full hit points.

A pretty fun adventure all in all.

Yea, my players were definately not stealthy..at all. They just faced wave after wave of apes! I kept bringing it too. As others had suggested, I put in the BarIgura devil-apes too. The group became so preoccupied with them, that the combats were very nasty.

I haven't run it yet, but I'm planning to run LToD soon in my Freeport campaign as a follow up to Porphyry House Horror. I intend to replace all the Trogs with Yuan-ti. The PCs will become involved when the Yuan-ti send a bunch of demons after them as revenge for busting up Porphyry House.

Our group ran this about a year or so ago. All went fairly well except we were caught in a narrow corridor when the super ape and its lover attacked. It completely destroyed the party ranger and we barely save our sorcerer. The whole dungeon structrue was kinda nasty, actually, but that encounter in particular was just deadly.
