I'm not sure where you would go to find roleplayers that stuck to a single manufacturer for miniatures. I have an extensive collection from multiple sources.
For a wargame, you may need to stick to a single manufacturer to play that game, but for tabletop roleplaying... Anything goes.
The LOTR mini's from Games Workshop are excellent figures both metal and plastic. Well worth the time and effort to model, paint and put on the game table.
