Love the Game vs. Hate the Greed?

Yeah, I would totally buy it.

4E doesn't even meet the "everything you (personally) ever desired in an RPG" caveat and I bought it.

change 1edADnD, 2edD&D, 3edD&D, 4edD&D, 2edADnD, 2000ed and 3.11ed for workgroups for 4E in the quote and that would be me.

i didn't buy 4E. the corporate greed finally got to me in feb 07 considering the first part of the statement about them not providing what i wanted.

Terrible way to start off a poll question. Greed, indeed.

But to answer the question, yes, I would. If there were a game I wanted to play I would buy it, not this week, as I am very poor till the 10th, but I would get it as soon as I had free money. I like my hobby and I am willing to spend money on it.

And I do not see companies as greedy for providing a service I am willing to pay money for. Much the opposite, actually. Do try and remember that there are real people working on companies, and hey like food and shelter just as much as you do. They might also wnat ot spend a bit of free money on a game they like, too.

The OGL would still be a sticking point with me. I'd still rather support RPG products I'm not quite as crazy about if they're completely open than a system that is everything I've ever wanted in an RPG but is completely closed. When I look at where I'm going to spend my money, one of the questions I ask myself is whether or not I foresee myself doing something with the game professionally.

So I can't answer the poll as there isn't an option that describes my criteria.

I voted "no"
But not because of the greed factor. I personally don't even know exactly what would make the "perfect" RPG for me. If I could come up with somthing close it would probably be a Ptolus sized book of rules and options that I couldn't ever read through entirely nor would I be able to afford on my currant salary (The very reason I couldn't buy Ptolus ).

I also don't think my "perfect" RPG could exist at all without stepping on alot of copywriten material too. I mean D20 Juicers! DAMN!

However, if there were a "perfect" RPG out there and it was reasonably priced, and didn't weigh a ton, I'd probably buy it.

Sure I would buy it. It has everything I want.

On the other hand I am more particular when it only comes to having some things I want but not others. That is why I never bought 4E. In order tro buy it doesn't need to have everything I want, but it does need to have more of what I want than a previous edition.

One: trying to establish a sustainable business model is not greed.

Two: yes, I'd buy 5e tomorrow if it were good. RPG's aren't new cars. I don't need to put too much thought into the purchase of a new one.

This just brought something to mind - if a new game actually has everything you want, in the sense that you'd never need another book or supplement...

... well, in terms of business, that's not good. WotC would get to sell you the game once, and that's it. Good burst, but not a good revenue stream. In terms of business, absolute perfection is not a desired goal.
