Low-level Wizard feat suggestions

Improved.

Initiative.

You're a wizard. There are many times in which you can flat-out end a fight before it starts, provided you go first.

Collegiate Wizard, as Thanee suggested. Aquiring spells is what the wizard is all about. Then I'd consider Acidic Reserve (Complete Mage), Spell Focus (PHB), Spellcasting Prodigy (FRCS), or Luck of Heroes (FRCS), saving Extend Spell for 3rd level, and Craft Wand for 5th.

Brew Potion should be your 3rd level feat. Make potions of all those buffing spells. Potions of Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Cat's Grace etc. And don't forget Alter Self (need to disguise everybody as orcs?), Invisibility, See Invisible, Detect Thoughts, and many more. You should already have scrolls of these spells, but potions mean that you can give them to the party members ahead of time. When you adventure, you should have two bandoleers - one of scrolls and one of potions. And when you get Craft Wand, watch out! Can you say Wand of Lightning? Wand of Fireball? Wand of Dispel Magic? Hehehe!

He's specifically looking for magic-specific or Gnome-specific feats rather than general feats to increase survivability.

One fun feat I know of is "I'm not going to eat that!"
However, it's from the Players guide to Arcanis ... (Living Arcanis, an RPGA system) ... so not sure if you'd have access to it ... ;)

It's kinda funny, cause it's prereq is "Gnome" ...
It's benefit is, basically, anything trying to bite/swallow you, has to make a saving throw or not bite/swallow you ...

There are a couple other Gnome-related feats in that book/system as well ...

(I'm definitely playing a gnome soon ... heh)
