With Maui standing by the Priestess Anna on the issue of her health, Ethane nods and, kneeling by her, casts a spell that seems to revitalize her to some degree. Her color improves and her breathing becomes a bit stronger. He examines her and, furrowing his brow, casts again, and her condition improves until she seems to be at full strength.

Anna Kallira
Healing complete, the young priestess stands up. There is a moment of self-evaluation and consideration before addressing the group. Then, with a stronger voice than you had become used to, Anna thanks the group, "Thank you for your consideration and action on the matter of my health. I am already feeling better. I wish you all The Bright Lady's blessings on your mission. Brace yourselves--what was horrible and unsettling to those fleeing will be doubly so for those throwing themselves into the danger." She draws the disc of the sun in the air before you with ritualized reverence, speaking an esoteric blessing.

"No goodbyes, brave adventurers," Anna concludes, "just anticipation until we meet again. Perhaps, when this is over, we can meet again and celebrate your contributions to the good of the Tritower folks. Until then." Long blonde hair flowing forward and back, the priestess bows before you, and you are free to begin as you see fit.

[sblock=Here We Go]The next step of the adventure is yours to take. If you have any further business in camp, we can resolve it. You also know the whereabouts of Hassbek and the nearest town, Benton. And, Tritower looms in the direction of the river's flow.[/sblock]

Barlo Hawkins, Human Bard

Barlo stood aside while the healing was going on. Once it was concluded he smiled at the healing and gave Ethane a clap on the shoulder for doing good work. He said his farewells to the priestess and acolyte, telling them they would return.

Turning to the others, he asked, “Does anyone have further business to attend to in this camp? Or maybe we should discuss a plan to start our investigation. It might no be the best idea to simply march straight there and stumble upon things.”

[sblock=Ghouls]Barlo's extensive reading and experience reveal that the ghoul is one of the tougher common undead. They are sapient, and as such, can do more than just rush at a person swinging. Additionally, he knows three key facts:
(1) They have no specific resistances nor vulnerabilities. Be happy chopping, bashing, or burning them down with fire. It's all good.
(2) Their bite carries a nasty wasting disease that, if it kills the victim, turns them into a ghoul.
(3) Any of their attacks, from bite to claws, are potentially paralytic, albeit on a short term basis.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Another option if JS45 doesn't come back real soon is to ask another player to potentially step in and post for Ethane in the meantime. I have done that in the past with mfloyd.[/sblock]

[sblock=JS45]Giving it some thought--I don't want his character so far removed that it's hard to work in upon return. He's been a long member of LPF and this sort of thing is unusual for him, so it may well be beyond his control.[/sblock]
[sblock=Vincenzo and Maui]You'll want to confirm that you're good to go or indicate you'd like to investigate some other person before I move the plot forward.[/sblock]

"So, Ghouls. Hit them, but don't let them hit you? Got it. Maui, is there a blessing from Tane that will cause them to be weakened against us? If you think we can be blessed now instead of at opening of combat, I am welcome to that.

Ethane, How about you? Is there a blessing of Ruvalra?"

He looks about the assembled people and says, "I figure we can go in for a foray to see what is their opening defense. If the good folk in Hassbek and Benton might know more, we would want to see them, I ponder"

Maui shrugged. "Maui is ready." The jungle warrior knew he could probably be ore ready if he took the time to commune with Tane, but he understood that time was important. Relying on his own strength and Tane's empowering touch had been enough to face other dangerous foes. He had no reason to doubt that the case would be any different with these 'ghouls'.

He looked over at Vincenzo, not quite sure what the swordsmen was meaning exactly by Tane's blessing. "You are with Maui. You are my friend. You always have te blessing of Tane, Handsome Blade."

If the swordsman meant something specific, he would have to spell it out for his somewhat slow witted wild friend.

[sblock=OOC] Sorry Scott, I'm not sure what you are hoping for here. Bless? Not sure the duration would be worth it, travelling from the camp to the city. (1 min/level) If there is something else you mean, let me know! [/sblock]

Drawing himself up, Ethane speaks a small prayer for Vincenzo, ending with a tap on each shoulder with his fingers. When done, he concludes, "Ruvalra goes with you." Then, after a short pause, he adds, "As for more direct magical blessings, those are available... when the time comes." The nods, as if in agreement of some unspoken word, then prepares to leave the camp.

Getting out of camp and heading towards Tritower turns out to be rather simple. There is a substantial amount of pasture land between the two points, spotted with occasional trees. The day has become increasingly overcast as time has drug on, and the possibility of rain seems a possibility. However, the gentle cool breeze that comes with the clouds is pleasant enough. However, the city of Tritower continues to be an enigma. Now that you are closer, you are almost certain at least some of the buildings within the river-bounded settlement are, in fact, on fire.

However, looking into the city itself doesn't tell you exactly what is burning. Rather, the entire town takes on a nearly mirage quality to it, straining the eyes when you attempt to visually investigate more completely. It's almost like a mirage.

As you step into the clearing / pasture land, you notices a string of armed townfolk have taken up position between you and Tritower. When you draw near, the closest one steps into the way and challenges you, declaring, "Halt! Nobody is to enter Tritower, for it is considered too dangerous!" He doesn't point his spear at you, but he does seem rather menacing.

In the moment where one would consider how to answer this challenge, Barlo notices an odd thing. Upon a hill, in this distance, a figure of some kind watches on, seemingly interested in the exchangle between you and the guard. As if responding to the discovery, the figure shrinks further behind the bush it is presently hiding from.
