Then he leans down again with the same smile as before - however this time in elvish, "" Hello there. Who are you and what are you doing here?"

Barlo put the net away as it did not appear to be needed. "Nice work, Maui. Glad to see that you were able to catch this one unawares."

As Vincenzo announced the language the drow was speaking, he pulled out a wand and cast the spell on himself to be able to understand all languages. "I hope you can speak it, Vincenzo. My spell only allows me to understand. So I might need you to translate for me if I want to say anything to her."

Barlo awaited the dark elf's answer to the swordsman's question.

Confronted in her own language, the dark woman sighs. "OK, fine. I'll tell you, since you ask so nicely. My name is Johysis, as if it matters. I was out gathering herbs to sell when I had a lapse of good judgement and decided to look at what is going on with the town some more. I can't figure it out, but it appears my trader-friend is not getting out of there, in any case."

Squirming a bit to try and make herself comfortable despite Maui's grip on her, the purses her lips and asks, "Any hope we can get this giant cat off my back, now? I don't know what is up with you people, but I'm getting tired of being chased on sight by every topsider with a sword or spear. And this heavy breathing on the back of my neck is getting creepy."

Her implication that you've asked for information nicely for information is clearly untrue and likely sarcasm. The basic content of her description is told without any clues indicating dishonesty. And the basic read of her is she's a combination of upset and scared, but she's trying to not let on.[/sblock]

then elvish, "Sorry, mi lady, but we must use the greatest caution here so give me a moment to converse with my fellows and I will get the kitty cat off your back." There is no hint of sarcasm in his words, though there is humor in the kitty cat reference.

Barlo was able to understand the elf, but not able to speak the tongue in return. He kept his face impassive and said, “I think Maui should stay on top of her yet.”

“I do not think she lied to us so far, but then she has not actually said much either. Gathering herbs could be the truth, but it does not explain why here and I am intrigued by who she might be trading with.”

“Ask her to explain more about where she is from and her trader friend. It would be interesting to hear her take on what is actually going in Tritower.”

Maui waited paitiently, not understanding any of the conversation, except what Barlo was saying. His friends seemed calm, so he stayed calm. Barlo had said that it was not time to release the woman just yet, so he kept the same grip on her that he already had. Taniwha meanwhile sat on his haunches and began licking his paws.

Vincenzo thinks for a moment, then nods to Balo.
In common: "Maui, could you see if his majesty, King Taniwah can be looking about to make sure no one or nothing sneaks up on us?"

In elvish: "I hope, Mi lady, that you understand that given the occurrences in the vicinity, we are more then a bit in trepidation on a straggler lurking about in our investigations. Perhaps we can get some sort of referral from the good folk of the area to giv3e a good word on your behalf, or maybe tell who and where your buyer of herb and what not that you have collected that we can collaborate your claim? It would go very far in the creation of trust and good will between us?

Also, if there is any knowledge you have of the goings on and who is who within the town of Tritower? And from whence you came? In good will, I will say we are all from Venza,"

Once again, he is not hiding anything, it is all truth. He is figuring that honesty might beget honesty.

Still trapped beneath Maui, the dark elf speaks with some difficulty to respond to Vincenzo's line of questions. With a bit of effort, she manages, "I've not done well with most of the local people, and prefer to keep to myself. There have been incidents of drawing weapons on me, chasing me, and hurling what I can only assume are insults. Needless to say, I doubt you'll get a good word from them."

Taking a few deep breaths, she squirms a little under Maui's mass, obviously uncomfortable. It serves as a reminder she is still armed, a dagger sits in a thigh sheath, although it's pretty obvious Maui is fully capable of preventing her from getting even close to it. She continues, "Two exceptions apply. First, I stumbled upon a small shrine to Thalina, and the priestess there showed me some degree of kindness, even if restrained. I traded herbs to her in order to get a hunting bow, although now she pays me in coin for my efforts. With some coin and animal pelts, I was able to peacefully contact and trade with a merchant named Two Tails while he was away from his caravan on two occasions." She pauses, heaving a sigh. "It is he I feel must still be trapped in Tritower--I did not see him escape with the others."

With that, the dark one falls silent. Ethane continues to be on guard as the conversation commences, apparently unable to understand elven and relying on Vincenzo and Barlo to make it clear to him what is going on.

Maui's tail twitches in response to Vincenzo's request. He had his mouth full at the moment and so no command to keep guard was issued. Taniwha continued to preen.

VIncenzo looks to Ethane and Barlo, [common] "what if we take her dagger for now an have Maui remove some of his weight to let her breath a bit better? She has told us [retells what she says to him from Elvin to common] in good faith."[/common], then to her he says, [Elvin] "I am suggesting the idea of removing some of the weight on your back, but we may need to confiscate your dagger for now.

Personally, I could never understand what you have gone through here in the Tritower area. Perhaps moving to Venza might be a more welcoming place. I could not say for sure." [/Elvin]
