The lunar eclipse is almost total at the time of this posting.
For a change, we have a clear sky for better viewing (in the NW burbs of Chicago).

I work 2nd shift. So I kept going outside at intervals to see how it was progressing (my job put's few demands on my time in case you're wondering).

Honestly, I wasn't impressed. It looked like the moon being obscured by heavy clouds or thick smoke, but without the presence of either actually being in the atmosphere. I expected the Earth's shadow to blot it out such that it resembled more of a blackened disk as it does during a solar eclipse. Maybe I just needed to be in a more northerly or southerly position on the planet to se the effect I was expecting.

Did anyone take pictures?

Really lousy ones, from when it was about halfway. (and without a tripod and in 10 degree weather. But still, better than I expected from a digital camera, you can see it's something)

Sadly it was the first night with cloud cover in about a week in NE England :(

I got up at 1:30am to check, and it was still cloudy. Shame, as I got some good pics of last year's. Oh well, roll on 2010!

I took pics, but our camera developed a glitch* and they didnt come out. Sucks, I really wanted to use one for my desktop.

*Turns out there's a recall for the camera. They'll fix it free, but man oh man, all the images I lost...
