Lvl 7 Sorcerer build advice

Shame you don't have access to Character Builder. The sorcerer in our game has been getting a lot of use out of Arcing Fire, from the PH Heroes.

2) You want to hit a target 11-20 squares away from you. Most ranged attacks need to be within 10, and many need to be within 5, so in most cases this won't come up as 10 squares is already behind the rest of the party. But in certain campaigns, this could be useful.
3) You get granted a free basic attack (or are granted a bonus to your basic attacks). If you don't have acid orb that attack is wasted. However, for most parties, this won't come up much if at all (You can make it come up with itemization -- with, say, Eagle Eye Goggles or an Impaling Dagger. The latter is a bit cheesy.).
IMHO (2) is the most important question: will you be engaging in combat at 11-20 squares? If you have an Archery Ranger and an Archery Bard, that's a strong range for the rest of your party, so consider being able to participate!

Regarding (3), remember that Dex is this Sorcerer's secondary ability, and she'll probably have a dagger in hand. So she could just throw the damn dagger as a Ranged Basic Attack (and it'll come back, because magic). Perhaps not as impressive as an Acid Orb, but still not bad.

Thus, IMHO Blazing Starfall is the better choice, particularly if you do not expect to have many encounters begin at longbow range.

Thanks again for the imput. I'm convinced ... Blazing Starfall it is! For the Lvl 5 Daily I will go for the Sun's Illlumination to get another area spell (too bad that it does not appear to work with the distant advantage feat ... well well, you can't get everything).
