Lycanthrope question

I am runing a low level campaign, and the characters have reason to believe they will be facing were-creatures (probably a den of were-rats). They don’t have access to high level spells such as Heal or Remove Disease, so I was wondering how one would go about getting the herb wolfsbane. There is a ranger with favored enemy shapechangers in the group, so there is a good reason for the party to know that this would be a possible curative.

I am just wondering if there are any rules on how to acquire Wolfsbane, also called Belladonna. I haven’t found it in either the Player’s Handbook or the DMG (I looked under poisons, as it is not the healthiest thing to ingest). If anyone could give me a reference, I would be grateful. Thanks.

when you said you are "runing" a game did you mean running or ruining? :-p you're the dm...you can tell the ranger where he knows it normally grows. i'd say it's from the forest or grows near the water like "Silverthorn" did in Feist's book. of course being the DM you could have it grow from cow crap like psychadelic mushrooms.

MM, page 219, describes how it works. That's the only place I know that mentions it in the core books.

You might have the ranger make a Knowledge (nature) check to know this, with a +2 synergy bonus for the favored enemy. Then make a Wilderness Lore check to find some.

where to find the weed

Thanks for the replies. I am running my first game, and trying not to ruin it :) I realize I can put the Belladonna wherever I want; I was just looking for something official.

I continued searching for this, and found a reference in Masters of the Wild. Under the infusion section, there is a table with what herbs are needed for what type of infusions. There is then a formula (10 +2x spell level) to find the herb with a wilderness lore check. It lists both wolfsbane (DC 24) and belladonna (DC 26). So now the question is, are these reasonable DC's and which one should I use?

Thanks.
