Lycanthrope Template

So, I'm kind of a newbie. I played D&D a little bit years ago in a friend of mine's party, and recently started again in grad-school. I talked my DM into allowing me to create a prestige class that allows me to become a lycanthrope, and I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to apply the template. Is it as simple as adding the Str/Con/Dex modifiers of the base creature and having all of the other abilities (Saving Throws, Skills, Etc.) scale accordingly, or is there more too it than that?

My plan is to have my character become a lycanthropic dog, using the riding dog as the base creature. I know that all lycanthropes get "scent" in any form, but do they get any of the other skills/abilities of the base creature (in base/animal/hybrid form?)?

So, any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

This may not be a project you want to attack as a newb, but hey, i've been wrong before. Try to get ahold of Savage Species. Its 3.0, but has full progression for a Lycanthrope charatcer. There was also a Dragon isse that statted out all of the lycanthropic critters, but I forget the issue #. Big help, I know :)

Size/Type: base creature’s / gains Shapechanger subtype
HD/HP: base creature’s + 2d8+(2Con)/ calculate for base, hybrid, and animal form as normal
Speed: base creature’s; hybrid uses base creature’s; 40ft for animal form
BAB/Grapple: base creature’s +1/base creature’s; calculate for base, hybrid and animal form
Attacks: base creature’s; hybrid gains 2 claws and a bite (2nd); Bite (1d6+Str) animal form
Natural Weap dmg: sm claw/bite- 1d3/1d4; med claw/bite- 1d4/1d6; lrg claw/bite- 1d6/1d8
Special Attacks: base creature’s; hybrid has access to base creature’s; none for animal form
Special Qualities: base creature’s; Alternate Form, DR 5/silver (10 if natural), Dog Empathy | all forms recieve Low-light vision and Scent
Base Saves: Fort- base creature’s +3; Ref- base creature’s +3; Will- base creature’s +0
Abilities: +2 Wis; while in hybrid and animal form they recieve +4 Str, +4 Dex, +4 Con
Skills: 4 skill points to allocate using the skilled listed for Dog, Riding as class skills
Feats: Alertness, Track (if the base creature has either it does not exchange for new ones)

that should be most of it

If you're going to go this route, I'd recommend incremental ability changes as you gain levels (kind of what Ender was pointing to in SS). For example, at odd levels you gain abilities related to being a lycanthrope (scent, maybe Strength/Con boost, or you lose control on the full moon and partially shift) and even levels you gain... something else. A transformational PrC (it causes changes in the PC over the course of 5 or 10 levels to something else, like the Dragon Disciple) is the right way to go, but I can't really see making a PrC to become a lycanthrope - there's just nothing else to add in to the class abilities. Savage Species sucks, but that racial class progression might be what you want here.
