M&M - Anime adaptation

Happy New Year to everybody!
Today I ordered a copy of Mutants and Masterminds, inspired to do so by the Anime movie "X-Movie" - perhaps you know, this thing about Earth and Celestial Dragons fighting to destroy respectively save human civilisation. The heroes and villains are dragons in human disguise (or viceversa).
As I still have to wait several days for M&M: How easy or difficult will it be to produce characters like these - human dragons capable of fighting each other in a separate dimension in both forms, thus protecting the real battle site from all damage - until the warding circle is destroyed, what the Earth dragons try to achieve.

It's kind of hard to answer your question not having seen the anime you're referring to, but I'll take a stab at it.

It sounds like you'll need to create a few new powers, but many in the book should be appropriate. Also, this sounds like it'd be a pretty high Power Level game, I would suggest maybe starting characters in the PL 15-20 range rather than the standard PL 10.

Hope that helps! :)

I have seen that one.

and.

it will be easy.

As Neowolf said... you will probably have to up the power level. but that is simple.

and, you may need to make one or two new powers... but there are rules for that. It should be fairly seemless.

Thanks. I expect the shapechange to some sort of Enery dragon (Earth dragons green, Celestials yellow) will be among the powers that will have to be made up from scratch? Be that as it may, I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on that M&M book!

the shapechange ability won't need to be made from scratch.

if they have a power to um....nope.. can't think of any that will need to be invented for it. I believe that the majority of powers have been covered. It's all in how you interpret the rules.

have fun.

I would serioulsly recomend going to a books store like Barnes and Nobel or Borders and go to their Manga section (Anime Comic books) and pick up the X-1999 mangas. I read my friends a while back and if I recall correctly they give names for all the spells/powers that they use in there. Just go with a notepad and pencil if you cant afford the book and write down all the spells/powers. It will add a bit of realism to the game. You can always just check the Anime Web Turnpike for fansite links that have all the names of these powers and will aso give the background for them as well.

Good luck, X is a great movie.

I have ordered the first two volumes of the X-Manga.
To expand my original thread-starting question: How usable is M&M generally for anime and manga fans?

It looks like it would be good for anime with very high power individuals, the sort who consider energy blasts a martial arts technique. You can give a character a basic attack, and then take alternate attack techniques as power stunts; I could see running good Ranma or Dragon Ball fights with M&M.

Tenchi Muyo would work well; you could write up Ryoko without having to worry about every power she only used in one episode, since those would just be using extra effort to temporarily get power stunts. Sorcery would be nice for Slayers-type magic; a character would get certain favorite spells, but be able to call on others when needed. And of course you could do anime with superhero-like characters, such as Project A-ko.

You might have problems with lower level stuff. The device rules can define a basic pistol or sports car, but wouldn't be good for a gun-bunnies anime where differences between brands of gun and how they're customized matters.

I have my M&M-copy! It looks gorgeous, and I immediately started to check for ways to make up X-manga characters. And lo and behold, the Alternate Form as a being of energy is there, complete with Energy Blast attacks, Flight and what not!
A closer look will perhaps show the awesome trans-dimensional warding circle/area of the x-manga dragons, otherwise this would be the most important addition using the "Creating Powers" chapter.
Wait and see! I might perhaps post x-manga characters here later.
