[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

"Listen then, don't talk," whispered Seif in the radio, as if they could be overheard. "Wait until they show their notice of us." The dirigeable secured in place, the desert man lept then scrambled up the Metal Beast, settling in a crouch on its right shoulder.

Windier, but much better vantage on the approaching convoy.

Deezy began to scan up the radio dial between the Transport Guild's frequencies.

*Crackle* (beep) (beeep) (beeep) (beep) *Crackle* (buzz) *crackle* ....je ne regre... *crackle* ( bell tones ) *crackle* ... bravo one one zero victor one zero one nine bravo .. *crackle* (music box tone) *crackle* seven zero zero (beep) (beeeeeep) two six *crackle* (distorted flute) *crackle* alpha theta sigma sigma delta kappa iota omicron alpha *crackle* .... opy? over.

Deezy stops her scan and listens.

*Crackle* Surveyor One, this is Odyssey Crawler, reading you loud and clear. Send status report. Over. *Crackle* Established visual with *Crackle* on *Crackle* heading. Traveler One *crackle* show. Over. *Crackle* Surveyor One. Say again. *Crackle* Established visual with Victoria Patrol. Patrol currently on south-east heading. Traveler One is a no show. Over. *Crackle* Surveyor One, I read you. Change heading to Nice. Watch for Traveler One. Report on contact. Over. *Crackle* Wilco. *Crackle* All Escorts, this is Odyssey Crawler. Status unchanged. Proceed with caution. Out *crackle*

Deezy glances down at her dial and notices that the communications she intercepted are not over Transport Guild frequencies.

"Getting something," Deezy blurted excitedly. She moved the dial to and fro until it was as clear as she could make it. "Chatter...not on T-Guild frequency. Weird. It's definitely them though."

She listened carefully, mouthing the words as she heard them.

"They don't sound hostile," she said after a moment. "The crawler's talking to someone else. That someone else spotted 'Victoria Patrol,' which is probably the flyer we saw, but is looking for something they call Traveler One, which they were expecting to meet out here somewhere, but they can't find."

Another pause, and she adds, "They don't sound worried though. In fact, they're heading towards Nice now. And being cautious. I wonder who they are. We should talk to them."

Brian Shaughnessy

"Can they trace us if we hop on the frequency?" Brian suggests. "Anyone who's got eyes out on those overhead patrols probably isn't after us, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be less than happy to know we've found them. Might be best to get ahold of them anonymously at first, see how they respond before we show ourselves.

"Which reminds me, are they still headed this way? Maybe we should get out of the way if we're blind calling?"

Aeaxeos, still standing next to the huge machine taps the metal of its leg. I agree. Contact them. But do it anonymously if you can.

The crawler still is heading in the direction of the caravan.

It is hard to say if Odyssey Crawler can track the group if one of you hails them. It would be theoretically possible if they had the proper (if not ancient) equipment, but then it would probably be easier to rely on radar (if they had it), a telescope or binoculars.

"Lord?" inquired Seif.

[sblock=OOC]I thought we were still on the crater's ridge? Are we down on the road after all, or maybe you're saying the way to Nice passes through the ridge road we're on? Could you clarify, please.[/sblock]

"We should probably try contacting them; but until we distance ourselves from them, it would be best to stay on guard."

(Not really) OOC:

Your caravan is currently on a road that snakes along the crater's ridge. It basically climbed up one small ridge, traveled on its top, then went down the opposite side so that the ridge formed by a large crater is on your right.

Odyssey is ordering Surveyor I to change their heading towards Nice, which is actually about 95 mi. East-North-East from your current location. Who/what Surveyor I is and where they are currently is unknown.

"Triangulating signal source isn't easy," Deezy assures Brian. "They'd need special stuff to do it."

She takes a deep breath then says brightly, "Odyssey Crawler, this is...uh...Cheesy One. Um. Over?"

Frantically she asked everyone, "What should I say?!"
