[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

Deezy finishes twisting another pair of wires together, pokes it, prods it, and nods.

"Should be working. Oh, yeah, okay he can talk."

She nods at the Elder encouragingly.

The elder stepped forward then spoke into the exposed microphone diaphragm. "Can anyone hear me?"

There was a brief pause followed by garbled male voice. "Elder is that you?"

"It is."

"Then, tell us, of the sands that lay outside this shelter?"

The elder thought for a moment then replied, "The sands were painted red with the blood of many a brave warrior who fell during the eve of the creator's feast. The earth was painted blue by the tears of those who mourn the warrior's sacrifice, and the sun still shines for the will of the great spirit is eternal and the works of man are but a fading dream."

"Elder, then we have failed you for our number is under 200 and the Warlord's machinist placed an aether blower within this chamber and I fear that many of us are showing signs of aether poisoning. Without our witches, many of us we will be dead in a few days."

In silence, the elder stepped away from the intercom with a look of complete shock and utter despair.

OOC: The effects and degrees of Aether poisoning can vary, however the symptoms similar to those of radiation poisoning.

"Why would he DO that?" Deezy asks. Then, belatedly she adds, "Oh, I'm Deezy? I'm a friend of the Elder. Why would he do that? Over? Oh! Also, do you know which level you're on? Um. Over."

Brian's jaw clenches as he hears about the situation. "I think we can rule out whatever chamber they're in as a place for this machinist," Brian says. "Even if the warlord might inspire suicide attacks, I can't imagine anyone subjecting himself to that slow death, especially since he couldn't guarantee he'd be the last one to die."

OOC: Since it's probably important given Brian's power set: is aether flammable? I believe at one point you mentioning it was, but I don't recall exactly.

"That is a terrible deed. One that shall be paid off with death. Painful and slow death." The Ottoman says, tightening the grip on his steam scimitar.

Why would he do that?

"To man an example of this village of what would happen if you defy the will of the Galaxias Warlord."

"Oh! Also, do you know which level you're on?""

"We moved down to level four."

OOC: Level 4 is the next level down.

OOC: Since it's probably important given Brian's power set: is aether flammable? I believe at one point you mentioning it was, but I don't recall exactly.
"Pure" Aether is a highly volatile combustible substance, however in order for it to be explosive it needs to exist in high quantities and requires massive amounts of energy since aether tends to normally burn "slowly and brightly." Most aether based explosives tend to use it for it's "radioactive" properties or as an incendiary weapon.

Seif's reaction at the news was quickly supressed, though he remained uncharistically silent and unresponsive as the others discussed around him.

"Well, unless there's another way down, I think we have to break this thing open and get those folks out of there. Deezy, I don't suppose you have anything the help filter Aether?"

A glimmer of fear in hard blue eyes, then the desert man stepped forward and pressed the comm button: "Can the ventilation be thrown in reverse?"

"Describe the blower and its location."

[sblock=Aether Questions]Relique, I'm assuming aether behaves like a gas? Can its effects penetrate air-tight surfaces, say an enviromental suit?

Which leads us to: Did the caravan have any protection suits (assuming there is such a thing)? Seif should know since he went over the equipment lists in preparartion for the trip. Concurrently, could the town have a supply of protection suits? Please ask the elder if at all likely.[/sblock]

"You'd need an air supply," Deezy opines. "It's hard to 'filter' aether. But an airtight mask with an oxygen tank would work. Or the Beast...but it's too big to bring."

She considers Seif's words and nods. "It could definitely be reversed...but probably not from here. I'd have to go to the blower and switch polarities on its power leads."
