[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

If looks could kill, Deezy would be a greasy smear on the wall. "Is that, perhaps, why I asked you to come up with a way to get the gas out through the vents a full ten minutes ago?"

A strong jab at the intercom button, "Silverstone, this is Seif. Ventilation in reverse, aether goes to the outer chambers... Can it be channelled outside instead?" A pause for thought: "Reverse the vents in the outer chambers, *block* the vents in the outer chambers, open a vent to the outside." So much wasted time.

"It wasn't ten minutes ago!" Deezy sputters indignantly. "And what did you expect me to do? Just walk through the wall? We can't change the vents, or blower, or anything else, until we're INSIDE."

"You've got no call being all angry-like over this! Why else do we need these suits if we're not going in?"

"Unfortunately, there is no way to do what you need to do without having minimal aether leakage. You can redirect the outgoing airflow from the inner chambers to the outer chambers or to the outside from the airlocked room that is located at the end of the elevator's maintenance shaft.

Unfortunately, to change the airflow out of circulation mode you will need to enter into the inner-bunker. That should not be a problem if you have protection suits and are able to open the bunker's main airlock doors* without damaging them.

No matter what, you must change the outer airflow first. If you do not, that room and the outer chambers will become flooded with aether as you are changing the airflow."

Note: In case you are wondering, the welded blast door is separate from the airlock. :)

["You've got no call being all angry-like over this! Why else do we need these suits if we're not going in?"

"I'm pretty sure Seif is angry-like by default, Deezy, so I wouldn't take it personally," Brian says dryly. He spares only the briefest of glance to Seif, quite sure of the daggers the man will be staring at him for it.

"But now we have confirmation: we have to go in to do anything at all. At least these doors aren't connected to the airlock, so I can freeze them brittle without robbing us of a way to seal of the aether again. Welding obstacle solved. Ready?"

Seif tapped her oxygen bottle: "30 minutes, Klatta. To save 200 desperate souls. Every - minute - will - count." And she had not even been listening to the maintenance man apparently ('access the maintenance crawlway from the elevator shaft'). "Plans are meant to be made *before* the battle."

A strong jab at the intercom button, "Silverstone, this is Seif. [etc]

"You are an idiot, Shaughnessy," commented Seif, his voice matter-of-fact. He diverted half his attention away from the console, hoping the youth would give him an excuse -- he was not in a very good mood at present, some inner part of him shrugginly admitted it to himself. Fear- Fear will do that to a man.

Only half his attention though: "Confirm: 1. Break open vault door, get past airlock without breaking it, change airflow in inner-bunker, 2. Enter crawlway in elevator shaft, go to airlocked room, put ventilation in reverse."

<Conformation Silverstone? If so, can we assume that he gives us the technical details of the airlocks and the flow changing/flow reversing operations that need to be done?

"And is *that* going to be enough to counteract the blower, clear the upper chambers?" Probably not.

<Response Silverstone?>

OOC: Fair warning, Seif is not the kind to treat someone differently 'because he's a PC'.

"No, you have it out of order.. 1. Enter crawl-way in elevator shaft then go to air-locked room. Once inside the room you place ventilation in reverse. 2. Break open vault door, then get passed airlock without breaking it and make your way to the generator room. From their you can open the vents to redirect airflow out of inner bunker."

Can we assume that he gives us the technical details of the airlocks and the flow changing/flow reversing operations that need to be done?
OOC: He will, the airlocks are the standard valve/leaver styled airlock doors.

"And is *that* going to be enough to counteract the blower, clear the upper chambers?"

"It may, but you must also disable the blower to be certain that it doesn't continue pumping aerther into the chamber."

Seif frowned, trying to get a mental image of it all... "If we reverse the ventilation first - without re-directing the flow - won't the aether just flood the outer chambers?" That had been the initial problem, hadn't it?

He almost asked why *Silverstone* didn't re-direct the flow himself, since he was already in the inner chambers, and then remembered that they'd moved the people down to the deepest levels. The top ones must be literally flooded with aether...

<Response Silverstone?>

Relique du Madde said:

"Noted. We will keep you informed." He turned to his companions, a still-trying-to-work-it-out look on his face... "How many radios do we have?"

OOC: Relique, can his armor fit under the suit?

Brian ignores Seif's continued impatience, knowing the battle of wills between them will never end well.

Deezy scratches the chin of her suit helmet sagely. "Oh. Boy, I had that all wrong. Okay I get it now. Who's coming with me?"

Brian nods. "I don't really need mobility to manipulate heat, and I can navigate by thermals. If we're going to have to crawl through tight quarters with questionable lighting, I'm probably a logical choice."

"If we reverse the ventilation first - without re-directing the flow - won't the aether just flood the outer chambers?"

"Without getting into the technical details, imagine a box with two pipes entering into it. When you blow on one pipe air comes out the other, and the reverse happens when you do the opposite. Now imagine that the ends of both pipes are sealed from the inside of the box and that the box itself is filled with aether. You are both the pumps and the outer chamber.

Right now you are sucking on the second pipe and, since the seal is air tight, you are not inhaling any aether. If you unseal the pipe you are sucking on before deciding to stop sucking on it then you end up with a lung full of aether.

Essentially, from that room you decide what you do with the pipe and from the inside of the bunker you decide where the air enters from and where it exits from. Right now new air enters from the top, and old air exists from the bottom."

OOC: Relique, can his armor fit under the suit?

OOC: Yes since I imagine some of them being sort of like the bulky styled hazmat suits.
