[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

Brian Shaughnessy

Brian is caught off guard as the desert man jumps from the balloon. His cry of alarm is cut short as he sees the man grab the line and use it to reach the ground with almost superhuman finesse.

"Starting to think the lady protests too much..." the young man mutters to himself, alone in the balloon.

[sblock=ooc]Brian is likely to prefer the sneakier option, since he hates fighting, but obviously has the skills to aid in the blowing up if that's what the group decides.[/sblock]

There was that word again; sestrika. On an off chance, Deezy queried the Beast's onboard computer about it, and got a blinking 'SYNTAX ERROR/COMMAND UNKNOWN' display for her trouble. She muttered something she'd heard, but not completely understood, in a Union bar once...it did seem to match her mood at the moment.

"Beast's not really made for quiet scouts," she reported over the radio. "I could stay behind and guard the convoy though."

Deezy heard a faint but climbing metallic whine and then Seif matter-of-factly let go of the line and drop-rolled to a crouching position between the Beast's equally crouching (and for now strapped-in) thighs. He knocked on its black armor to get her attention.

"Featherston-Smythe will be with the caravan," he reminded. "He is a competent sorcerer." And he was, with some field experience at Seif's side as well. "The Beast can stay half-a-mile behind the recon, sestrika, out of view but ready to strike. You will not be a hindrance."

He looked up to where he thought she was and waited.

[sblock=OOC]Up to you, Shayuri, but depending on what Relique has planned for us, I think caravan duty might be rather dull. This way you can participate if you want to (remember that our nearest target is 5 miles away!).[/sblock]

OOC: *Cough* if things go sour... having a "tank" is an excellent means persuasion.

It should be noted that even if Brian is in the Balloon when JKason returns, his perception ranged ice/nuke powers can still aid you as long as he has a spyglass or a high tech gizmo with range finding capabilities capable of seeing the raider camp from a distance.

Deezy nodded...pointlessly, since no one could see the gesture...and replied through the Beast's speakers, "Okay! I'll find a dune to squat down behind, and wait and see if you guys need me! And I can even try to listen to their radios if they're using them."

She sounded quite pleased indeed to be included.

That last gave the robed-one pause: "Can you wreck their gear from afar?" Shout in their metal ears, make their thinkers warble-howl in endless insanity...

"Mmm...not reeeeeeeeally," Deezy replied thoughtfully. "Not WRECK. The Beast's radio isn't made for stuff like that. I might be able to kick it up, but there'd be a pretty good chance of burning it out if I did. And even then it wouldn't wreck them. Just stop their radios from working for a little while."

(OOC - Basically, she could use Extra Effort to temporarily 'buy' an AP off the Beast's Communication power...something like a wide area Radio Concealment power or something, to jam their communications. The 'fatigue' from that would reduce the Beast's performance though, since she doesn't take it herself, I don't think...)

Raider fantasies faded away.

"Good to know." A look at the rapidly descending balloon, "We will be leaving within five minutes. Prepare what you must, sestrika." And then he was off, into the crawler proper.

OOC: I think we're about ready to go, Relique. Unless you want to wait until Voda and JK are back to active status?

It seemed like forever before the winches finally had the balloon down far enough that Brian felt comfortable clambering out. By then the Beast was unstrapped and the desert guide waited. Brian wanted to add 'impatiently,' but the fact was he never could seem to properly judge the man's moods.

He shrugged, giving up trying for now, and joined the others. Hiding behind something and setting off sparks were things he was actually beginning to feel comfortable with...

Seif spotted the young mutant as he approached and pointed him either to the huge mech or to the ATV Runner idling nearby, the Ottoman and his appointed driver just strapping in.

"No changes?" he added. The veil still hid most of his expression but there was an undercurrent of excitment to him now, a certain animal... eagerness?
