Thanks Jamdin, very informative.

I'm really glad you brought this up. It's hard for me to believe that say, Avocado and Art didn't go sun-bathing just to avoid having to be around Don the Vampire (or as I like to call him, NOT-feratu).mmu1 said:BS. The alts talk a good game, but they've done nothing to prove they're open-minded - do you seriously believe they'd be as open minded about each other's lifestyles as they expect the "normals" to be? Can you imagine the naturist drinking blood, or the "vampire" running around naked in the middle of the day? Maybe the witch could try hanging by hooks from the ceiling (if they can find a place to stick them that wouldn't leak silicone).
There's an implication inherent in the show that the beliefs of the "alts" are somehow valuable for being so extreme, but that whatever the "normals" believe is just a sign of being close-minded, and that those people have a void inside them waiting to be filled, which, frankly, is incredibly insulting...
It's a gimmicky "Survivor" rip-off on a low-rent cable channel. Were you expecting anything more?Krieg said:Personally the entire show comes across as a farce to me.
I didn' really pick up on that. Got any examples? Just to jog my memory. I only remember a lot of psycho-babble about the guests needing to "grow" and & be more "open." The rudest things were said by the regulars to each other.Krieg said:It's interesting that no one has mentioned that at least some of the "alts" come across as every bit as closed minded & bigoted as they accuse the "norms" of being.
There have been more than a few snide comments made about the norms that would be highly criticized if the roles were reversed.
Miss Cleo - LOL. That "possession" was hysterical, especially because Hamin seemed to believe her.Krieg said:The verbal assault on the first contestant booted off the island...err show...by Mistress Cleo (it's nice to see she's finding work these days) was pretty bad, although it does make me worry that my ancestors are pissed at me because I don't regularly offer the blood eagle to ole' grim one-eye Wotan.![]()
Of course it wasn't really her, it was the "spirits".![]()
See? There's at least one good reason to watch.Krieg said:Hey at least the witch is hot (and apparently quite the capitalist! Yeah!!).

I didn't really think that. Guess I just kept the whole context (people, competing for money, on a "reality" show) in mind--and I think the Alts are playing a game, too. After all, they were hired to make an interesting t.v. show. No conflict = no drama = boring. And they really show that they're playing a game when they say things like Don did. They were talking about how the regulars were going to get their mind messed with--and Don put on his patented evil grin and said something like "Oh, definitely."mmu1 said:There's an implication inherent in the show that the beliefs of the "alts" are somehow valuable for being so extreme, but that whatever the "normals" believe is just a sign of being close-minded, and that those people have a void inside them waiting to be filled, which, frankly, is incredibly insulting...
