Made it back to Buffalo in 1 piece.

First Post
Ok, so I got back into Buffalo last night after a long, dull train ride. I already missed my parents :( and the kittie was still at the vet for boarding :( :(, so I was kinda sad in addition to being totally beat. Luckily, I kept thinking about getting my cat home this morning :D .
So, I woke up, threw some clothes on, and headed to the vet. I'm thinking, "ok, throw the cat in the carrier and let's go", but turns out Zeal's stay was not uneventful. Poor little thing got a cold for Xmas. :( The vet tech told me about how first she had the sniffles, then she wouldn't eat (eventually not even her favorite snack, Kittie Kavier, which is benito flakes... that's when they knew she was definately not feeling well), then was coughing & sneezing. They gave her fluids, penicillin (sp?), and did blood work (everything was fine, but her glucose was a bit high (which made me worry... all I need is to hear, "Merry Xmas, your cat's diabetic!"), but they tested her urine and she's ok. Luckily, I take my cat to the best place. They took such good care of her. They gave her wet food to tempt her to eat, and would even warm it up for her. The vet that saw me said that Zeal is everybody's favorite and that she'd come in to find the techs w/ Zeal's cage open, petting and playing with her. We think she caught the cold from another boarder during Xmas (she started having symptoms on Dec. 27), which makes sense since she's an only kittie and stays indoors. Plus, it was her longest time being away from Mommy, so that couldn't have helped how she was feeling (she's a really mushy, needy kittie). All I can picture is her sitting in a cage thinking, "I don't feel good, these people keep poking at me, & I MISS MY MOMMY!"
Now that she's home, she feels much better. She's sneezing like crazy, but she's in a good mood. We took a nap together this afternoon. She took her pill like a champ (1 twice a day for 7 days). She ate some of her dinner, some treats, & I shared some chicken soup with her. We also played a bit of fetch with her favorite Pom-pom (the slower, "I don't feel so well" game) and she's been talking up a storm with it (she does this all the time... I figure she was filling it in on her vet visit ;) ).
I thought I felt guilty about being away from her during the holidays before:(. Plus, my parents (Zeal's grandma & grandpa :) ) payed for the boarding and the extra medical stuff (about $400), so I called my Mom as soon as we got home this morning to say "thank you" from me & Zeal. But, I'm still SO happy see my little kittie again :D. I missed her SO MUCH! We're going to send a nice note w/ a picture to the vet to say thank you for taking such good care of her. Hope I can find just as good a place when we move away from here.
Now, my only problems are taking care of SSI (my hat of paperwork knows no bounds ;)), starting to organize stuff for packing for whenever I figure out when & how I'm moving, and preventing HORRIBLE nightmares I'm having about my ex (they weren't too bad, except one, at my parent's, but they started right back up as soon I got back into Buffalo). The nightmares are actually the worst thing on the list, because I dream, and have always dreamt, really, REALLY, real dreams. I mean color, taste, smell, touch, emotions, everything.
Ok, crazy cat lady rambling finished. :) I'm just happy to be back home with Lady Zeal and my PC (I was using my parent's IMac before... it hurts my head and my head hurts enough as it it ;) ).

Wow, benito flakes for snakes, that's pretty fancy. (actually I've only heard of benito flakes from watching Iron Chef so I've no clue what they really are ;) )
:p

It's just dried fish, of what kind I have no idea, shaved really thin. I have my mom get them at the pet place she goes to and send them up when she sends me a package, but I've found them at other pet stores (with other brand names) and in pet supply catalogs. She loves them and will do almost anything for them. They smell really, REALLY fishy (duh, it's fish ) and Zeal can hardly smell them with her nose so stuffed. I used to jokingly wonder how she breathed through her tiny nostrils, and now they're all stuffed up.:( I was watching her little nose crinkle up when she was trying to inhale through her now tinier nostrils. Poor little kittie :( ... but she is feeling better, I can tell. :D The "no sense of smell" is making her not interested in eating, but I give her a finger of stuff to taste, and then she munches away. Also, I raised up all her dishes about 5" so that she doesn't have to lean so far over her food, which makes her nose run. She slept plenty today (all tucked in, under the covers, by mommy ;) ) & was talking up a storm with green pom pom again.

My cat loves sunflower seeds. Glad to hear that you made it back ok. I know what it's like to have a sick cat. Our cat Buhhlo had a respitory infection after we first adopted him. So he had to take his anti-biotics and he hated it. But he is happy and healthy now.

Yeah, sick cats are no fun. Our cat was diagnosed with asthma about two years ago or so. For ahwile she was on drugs until we finally realized the condition was aggravated by cat nip. Take the cat nip away and the her condition improved and doesn't even take drugs anymore. Still the occasional cough or wheeze, but not too bad.
