Mage-killer

Does anyone know where the monster called a Mage-Killer can be found? I do remember it from somewhere, and cannot remember where.. maybe it was 2nd Ed? I'm quite sure it was 3rd ed though..

It was in... 2nd ed monsterous compendium annual 3, if I remember correctly.

Seems I was mistaken, I was thinking of the Magedoom.

So what did the Magedoom do? Kill wizards? Because it may very well be that monster I remember, and then I mixed it up with the psion-killer.

It was a somewhat man-shaped ooze (it was really a golem) surrounded by an anti-magic field. At the end of its arms were eyes, which it would make touch attacks with to steal spells.

I think it was an undead wizard that killed other wizards?

Hmm.. now where to get hold of that 2nd edition book... might be more trouble than it's worth. Do you know of any other 3 ed monster particularly suited to the task of battling wizards? I have a rather arrogant wizard in my party and I want to knock him back a few pegs...

Yeah, but I'm thinking about a kind of non-intelligent thing summoned by one of his enemies.. well, I guess a golem will do in any case.

Just make certain you do not make an iron golem. An intellegent mage can destroy those almost instantly with polymorph. Clay is quite nice (as far as standard golems go), though magedooms are good if you can find them. Also good are emerald golems and prismatic golems.
