Magic Circle vs Astral Construct?

I've asked this before and I don't think I ever got any kind of definitive reply.

Does a Magic Circle shunt out an Astral Construct?

On the one hand, I see that an Astral Construct is made of ectoplasm, which might be from the astral plane, but it's not a summoned or conjured creature.

Ooooh, good question. I'd say yes, Greg, on the basis that the ectoplasm is astral. There is no rules reference that I know of that backs me up on that, though.

Wouldn't that lead to a horrid logic chain where Magic Circle would hedge out anyone using Ectoplasmic armor or similar powers?

I can certainly see ruling either way, of course. Just positing this.

As an addendum to my question: Would a Magic Circle hedge out Called Weaponry?

Nope

Astral Constructs are constructs, not outsiders or elementals. The "goo" may have come from the astral plane, but it was "formed" here. And even if I'm wrong on that, they're still constructs :-). Got both sides covered.

Magic circle won't keep called weapons away either, since the called weapon could have come from this plane (how do know where the came from? dice rolling?), and anyway, weapons aren't outsiders or elementals.

Look at the CR of astral constructs vs summoned monsters. A bit low? This is because the more powerful summoned monsters can be held back by magic circle against x, or dismissed with banishment and other abjuration spells. (Also, fiends can't use their own summoning abilities, but that's less important IMO).

*snort*

You're either kind or sarcastic! I'm far from the world's greatest DM. We just have fun... and anyways, I'm not a real rules guru! That task falls to Dr. Rictus. Unfortunately, the no-good so-and-so up and moved to Troy, NY, leaving me without a rules expert. Hummph. :)

I'm trying to be kind. You're the best DM I've found so far (of course, there's a lot I don't know about). Too bad about losing your rules lawyer. If I could move to Seattle, or wherever you live, I'd take the job. Fast!
