The prologue is about a different person but it's from your point of view

You make your to the transit station in the Middle Ward why did you ever take that shop it’s at least an hour away from the transit you should have taken that old warehouse in the Lower Ward at least then you could’ve drove home you sigh again. it’s already dark out you take your long black hair out of your pony tail and make sure you haven’t broken in any of your nails there is the garden you’ve been able to cut your time in half going through the garden something doesn’t feel right as you enter the garden you turn and scream you are engulfed by darkness.

Everyone is in the drunken dragon's bar the bar smells of charred wood and meat their is loud talking from all the patrons a folk band plays in the background and the television above the counter plays a rerun of last nights chariot race what is everyone doing?

Tonight, soft chuckles and loud laughter occasionally drown out the too-quiet announcer of the Chariot races. Over the course of the last hour, a small group of men have gathered at the Bar listening to the animated storytelling of a young man -- Marty Inglis. One of the young man's audience members had earlier snorted in disgust at the underhanded sales techniques of some of the shop owners in the Western part of the Lower Ward, a comment which had been met with grunts of agreement from the other patrons nearby. Marty had immediatly leapt into a tale of a stubborn shop owner from the area who had only two days ago had sold him a broken motor bike and then refused to refund the item. The young man, with reenactments complete with gestures and voice impressions, recreated the scene which culminated in him confusing the poor shop owner so thoroughly that he let Marty leave without with both a replacement bike and a 50% refund. Every step of the story was met with smiles and laughter until one of the men sighed and said "Marty, if I didn't know you I wouldn't believe anyone could trick someone like that."

And to be honest, Marty hadn't. In fact, Marty wasn't even this man's real name. Marty Inglis was simply one of many aliases employed by Merari Ruiz in his efforts to remain hidden from the watchful eyes of the BIA. Why was Merari remaining hidden from the BIA -- an organization started to protect the citizens of the realm from unsavory characters using magic to break the laws? Mostly because Merari tended to break laws -- and he tended to do it with magic. But more on that at a later time. The story, a well thought out drama involving real people, real places, but, unfortunately, fictional events. Merari probably shouldn't have told the story at all -- Charles, his mentor, was constantly impressing upon the young man the importance of remaining low key in public places so as to not draw unnecessary attention. But Merari liked people, liked being liked by people, and therefore couldnt help but become the center of attention anytime he went out to relax in the evening.

Done with his story, Merari went back to sipping at his mug and listening to the talk and gossip of the people around him, listening for anything that might prove useful at some future time. When others spoke, he paid attention, chuckling and nodding in all the right places. Anything to keep the talk and the information flowing. Whenever the door opened, Merari's eyes flickered to the door, checking to see if the person was of any special interest -- looking for either someone Merari might have to be careful around or attractive young women coming to have food or drink at the Inn tonight.

Niko, sharply dressed tonight in a full suit, ponies up to the bar and kept an eye on the chariot races. Damn shame he mumbles. He raises his hand to summon the barkeep. Good evening, Karl. How are you this fine evening? Fine Niko, what can I get you? My usual. One light beer comin' up.

Say, Karl anyone here tonight thats been shifty? I'm trying to track down a guy thats been on the run from the BAI, trying to remain in the shadows.

Merari considers the time. It's not too late (in his opinion) but there hasn't been anything of interest here so far tonight. Merari says goodnight to those nearest him, leaves some cash to cover his tab, and moves away from the bar. Sighing, he slightly loosens his black and silver tie before throwing his black suit jacket over his shoulder. Merari heads to the door wondering whether he should just call it a night and head home or if he should stop by one more bar or inn tonight, looking for some easy money to tie him over for the week.

Merari cursed profusely in his head. This was always the hardest part of getting caught - deciding whether it's better to run as fast as he can and hope this Miriam wouldn't be able to stop him before he exited the room or if he should play the part of the cooperative, slighty-drunk Marty Inglis in the hopes that this woman would believe she was mistaken.

At any other time, Merari would have ran, but this woman clearly believed he wouldn't escape or else she wouldn't have turned her back so quickly to talk to this "Niko" character. Sighing, Merari decides to pretend to be Marty Inglis for the time hoping his forged ID and skills at bluffing will get him through this until the opportunity to escape presented itself. In the meantime, Merari tries to identify what this clearly magical mark on his palm is...
