Magic Initiate Feat

I have a question about D&D feats, your opinion.

Under magic initiate: if I choose cleric, would the 1st level spell be from the generic spell list or could you choose from a cleric divine domains spell list (say War Domain Spell : divine favor) that spell is not on the 1st lvl list.

The feat says pick from a class's spell list (and then lists specific classes to choose from) - if it's not on that list you don't get to pick it.

The whole point of cleric domains is that you get spells that are not normally on the class's spell list (Divine favor, for example, is a paladin spell).

It's just the generic list. The domain spells only become cleric spells if you have the domain.

But your DM might be okay with it.
