ok a sorcerrer with Craft Wonderous Items and Craft Arms and Armor wants to make Dragon Scale Armor (Masterworked of course) and imbue it with Shield.

How much is this going to cost?

He is on his way to becoming a Dragon Disciple (Sor7/Dd5)

Well... "imbuing with Shield"... that's basically a +7 Cover bonus to AC, stacks with almost anything, and a +3 bonus to Reflex Saves.

Bonus squared x 2000 for the AC - that's 98,000gp. Reflex Save - that's probably more than the Bonus squared x 250 for a "limited" save bonus like a PoPaP, so call it double that - 4,500 gp. Doubled again for stacking powers, 9,000, for a total of 107,000 for the Shield spell.

If you were feeling generous, you might let him have it on special for 100k.

Not sure what the cost on Dragonscale is, but compared to 100k, it's probably not exceptionally significant - adamantine scale is around 5,000, and if he has the dragon scales already that's a good deal of his material costs paid for...

[edit] Of course, the Shield only works in one direction at a time, so I might drop it to 75k if I were in a good mood. [/edit]

uhhh its a spell. Doesnt spells have their own formula?

He wears it and it activates (use activated) so the formula for that is spell level x caster level x 2000 gp. Right?

Yes, or you could have charges.
So he could have like 50 charges or use it once a day etc.

Are you the sorcerer or the DM?

Check out the ring of invisibility. Spell level 2 x caster level 3 x 2000 is 12,000, but it's priced at 20,000.

Shield has a duration of 1 round per level. With a caster level of 1, that's 1 round. You think a 1 round spell being permanently on, granting a similar AC bonus to the 49,000 "+7 enhancement" price, but more stackable, is worth a mere 2,000 gold?

How abot the use-activated True Strike on a sword? 2,000 gp for +20 on every attack? I'll take it!

This is why those tables are just guidelines. If you apply them blindly, bad things happen. Every 4th level NPC would be using a True Strike sword and Shield shields... for 4,000 gold, it's a bargain set! Do you want to run into those NPCs?

Offical there are none, sorry, all crappy DH does now is let you make the armor masterwork for free, and that's only if you have enuff hide.

The duration of shield is 1 minute per level.

What is the bid deal of having shield up 24/7/365?

Shield is a persistable spell anyway. so for a single 5th level spell slot it would be on all the time. Of course you would still need extend and persist or just a rod of lesser persistance.

Also you would have to take an action to bring the shield up every time you wanted to have it up, its not like it would be up all the time without activating it.
