Magic Item Powers and Milestone, when does it occur?

In the last 4e adventure I ran, the PCs had one day where they got through 7 encounters, thus 3 milestones!

Really? They're cumulative??
I thought that it worked like action points...

This would certainly be my interpretation. The PHB clearly states that after each Milestone you gain an additional use of a magic item daily power, which you can use on a magic item daily power that you haven't already used during that day. And just like Action Points the number of magic item daily powers resets after an extended rest.

I think this is actually pretty cool, because it fixes some of the issues with the so-called '15 minute adventure day'. Not completely by any means, but a little bit

You don't have to reach a milestone to gain the first daily use of a magic item.
Apart from that you are mostly right, although you are not limited to only one use of different magic items in an encounter if you have more than one use built up.

Should have been more clear. I know you don't have to hit a milestone to use a magic item's daily.

Just to be clear. With 2 items, I have not used either item's powers today. Thanks to a milestone, I now have two uses of triggering a magic item's daily power. Can use the daily power of item A and the daily power of item B in the same encounter? (I thought they were like action points, one per encounter.)

If you have 2 daily powers from your magic items (one daily power from 2 magic items, or 2 different daily powers in one magic item),

and if you have not yet used a daily power from any magic item,

and if you have reached a milestone,

then you may use 2 daily powers that are different from each other in one encounter. Or you may spread over two encounters, however you see fit.

Daily magic item uses are NOT like action points! Action points are a special mechanic, not a general rule.

ok what if you have one item with a daily power, you use it . can you now give it to a buddy and have him use it or is the item all uesed up for the day?

No.

If the item has a daily power, that means it can only be used ....<wait fer it!>...once per day. That's the whole point of a "daily" power.

The "milestone mechanic" is there to limit how many different daily magic item powers any one PC can use. It's to balance the power of PCs, so that they don't go down the "x-mas tree" route.
