Except it's much harder to add a balanced set of magic item prices, than it is to remove them.

It is, however, easy to make a poorly balanced set of magic item prices. Which, in case you didn't notice, is exactly what the DMG gives you already. 500 gp for Uncommon items, x10 per level of rarity above that.

If you want better rules or more granularity you'll have to look to external parties or make them up. Such is life. The spell research rules are in even worse state but there's no use griping about it.
